Is this an agate?

I see banding on the edges, so is it an agate? I cut it in half and it has a purple inside. Is that amethyst?

It's not particularly unusual.

Very nice piece though. :)

It is nice, but it is not a geode. No hollow center- call it a nodule.

Beautiful piece. There's something about naturally occurring purple, whether it be floral or faunal. OK, I know, I'm thinking, I'm thinking...How about a nudibranch? Enjoy.

Nice colors! Looks like an agate nodule (amygdule) where the center just happened to fill in with amethyst and what looks like some calcite. The white and black outside the banded agate looks like calcite as well. Do you know if it is from Texas or Chihuahua region of Mexico?

Maybe we can call it "fortification agate" with Amethyst infill.

Looks much like the agate nodules that come from around Luna, New Mexico and Alpine, Arizona.

Often referred to as "luna blue" agate.

Wow, that’s very nice.

Note: I’ve collected purple agate from Arizona, and I’ve noticed that it may be quite vibrantly colored when first cut, but will fade over time with exposure to Sunlight.  This characteristic my be particular to the specific site I collect from,  I don’t know.

Just in case, you may want to display it away from direct Sunlight.
