A little Lower Silurian Collecting in Dalton, Georgia

Today I made a quick stop on Dug Gap Mountain Road in Dalton, Georgia and did a little collecting in the Lower Silurian Red Mountain Formation. At this location you find imprints of shells, though I cannot find any information on them.

Beautiful brachiopods!  The one circled in red looks like it could be a strophomenid and the one circled in green looks like it could be a spiriferid, but I'm no expert - perhaps @Tidgy's Dad and/or @Peat Burns can chime in...

I agree with a strophomenid, bu the little one is an orthid, possibly Isorthis.

The @Nimravis went down to Georgia... He was looking for brachiopods to collect ;)

Nice finds and nice-looking site, hope it'll yield more in the future :)

Opalised fossils are the best: a wonderful mix between paleontology and mineralogy!

Q. Where do dinosaurs study?

A. At Khaan Academy!...
