Old Ammonite Prep

Recommended Posts

Here’s another old prep that I finished up today. This is another from the old collection with no information. So, if anyone knows what these are (besides ammonites :P) or where they are from I’d be grateful for the help.

This is how it came out from the pile on the back of the shelf.

I had done a small amount of prospective scribing but not much.

Pretty! I'm thinking Fox Hills, but I can't say much more than that.

Thanks Roger, this gives me a starting point.

Looking at the rock it is not Pierre Shale or Bear Paw.  Im gunna go with Roger and say it is Fox Hills.

I would trust @RJB over my suggestion as he's the guy with the most knowledge of these materials

Most of the work was done with an ME9100 and a small amount with an ARO.

I was going to say I would have taken it as it was in the top pic but I think you've bumped it up at least notch!

With the disagreements over the location of origin, would it help if we found someone who could ID the ammonites, and then use that information to narrow down to the formation/level? I know it is often hard to find a location or formation for something just based on the preservation, as any given formation can have some variation in preservation... certainly that is the case here in the Nanaimo Group.
