gen
Hi guys, I found this along with a lot of belemnites at Folkestone Warren, UK. It looks like some sort of tooth but I'm not sure. It measures 1.2cm/0.5" long and has an almost rectangular cross section. Any ideas? Jay

Fossildude19
Looks more bone-like than tooth-like, to me. gen
Perhaps it could be a spine or claw in that case? There is a distinct indented ridge on two of the surfaces.
Paleoworld-101
Not a tooth or claw, possibly a worn and slightly sea polished shard of bone. But could also be ironstone! The first picture has an ironstone look, but the third pic has a bony look. The textural difference is subtle but that's all it takes to change the ID. Manticocerasman
that's a piece of oxidised marcasite. they are often found in nodule like shape in the chalk deposits, when those fall appart you get those kinds of shards. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcasite ( see the radiating marcasite forms ) 2 growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional. gen
Thanks guys, it indeed appears to be a shard of oxidized marcasite/ironstone. Attached an image for reference.
