Hi, and :Welcome-crab:.

Please, can you tell where do it come from more precisely ?

Do you know its age ?

What size is it ?

Did these "some people" give you any thoughts as to what they thought it might be other than a non-leaf?

Could be a leaf, could be iron staining, we will need close ups.

I think, Zoophycos might not be proper to its shape, but close-up pictures may lead to a more precise ID.

Hello, when you provide some additional photo close-ups, would you kindly provide some measurements as to length? Perhaps include a metric measuring device in the photo.

Zoophycos does not appear likely. Maybe you also know the age of the formation it might have come from?

It reminds me of the long leaves of Myrica lignitum.
Maybe it's a poorly preserved M. lignitum or similar leaf.

Usually when I find a carbon streak in any sedimentary rock, its a good indication that it was plant matter at some point.
Ditto the detailed picture though if you want a accurate identification.

Eocene - onward plant leaves usually don't have carbon film, but may have mineral staining, like the specimen below. For better resolution an other specimens, please check the link . :)
