Thoughts regarding preservation?

These have only been out of the water a very short time. Are there preservation steps that I should be taking or will they be fine if placed under glass and out of the sunlight?

Thanks for any information.

I think you are basically good to go unless you notice any irregular flaking or cracking of the roots. But from the looks of them they seem pretty stable.

You are one lucky dog!

Do you think there could be any problems in bringing them to a dry climate like Colorado? I would hate to wake up and find all of the enamel piled up around the tooth one morning. Sorry if these seem like novice questions but they are coming from a total novice.

Awesome find. Go back and find the missing piece of the cap- tooth and you'll have the whole jaw's worth. Mastodon teeth are usually much more stable than mammoth teeth. If they were mine, I'd wait a few more months and then apply a consolidant to the roots and the insides. The enamel looks really solid and should not need anything.
