Ammonite hunt in Northern France

Recommended Posts

We are back from a very windy fieldtrip to Cap blanc Nez in France.

The wind covered a lot of the rocks with sand and sea foam ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_foam  ) which made fossil hunting rather difficult.

We were helped by a local collector in the morning who guided us through the Turonian deposits of this site where we rarely colect, here we got 2 big ammonites. One of them was a Mamites nodosoides, this species as been on my wishlist for a while, so I am very happy with it :D

In the afternoon we prospected the Cenomanian side. her we found the usual Mantelliceras and Scloenbachia ammonites.

The prospecting site:  ( we did see the coast of the UK on the other side of the channel )

Loved the rugged coast and awesome ammonite finds, Congrats! I guess you can't whack them with a hammer and get them out like the guy from Whitby?

Congratulations on checking another fossil off of your wishlist - that Mammites is already nice, but I'm sure it will be even more beautiful once prepped :ammonite01:

An update on the prepped finds of this fieldtrip.

Not an ammonite this time, but a very well preserved echinoid.

I had to remove a lot of chalk around this one with a dremel, but it turned out realy well.

It is also the first complete one I ve found at this location:

Holaster sp.

Cenomanian

Cap-Blanc-Nez (France)
