Dying to find a good crab claw. Found this little tiny thing....it sure looks like a crab claw but I have a sneaking suspicion it's just a very good mimic of limestone rock. Please help me confirm or contest. Thanks!!!

It is a crab claw. :)

Try to compare the visible patterns with the ones below from my finds, although the specimens are from the Miocene of Romania.

I'm thinking a bit of tenderizer would be in order as well.... or carbide steel teeth..

I agree with Uncle Siphuncle.  FYI, it is a hermit crab, so the claws are all that you can find.  The body was soft and flexible to fit inside snail shells.

You have here a paguroid claw, not a "true" crab but a hermit crab

:)

Don

Certainly don't find carapaces, but legs do show up as well.

There are a few Glen Rose locations that also produce tiny Callianasid (ghost shrimp?) claws. They appear much smoother and more rectangular and rather small.

And there are a few other actual crabs with carapaces that show up on occasion.

Jamie, you certainly are getting your "eyes" on.
