Ammonite

I just found this guy in some old boxes. I lost the ID card, but if I remember correctly, it came from France. I don’t know ammonites so I have no clue if this could be identified at all without a precise locality.

Do you know from where in France? Or the age? It does ressemble to Pavlovia from the Jura... :zzzzscratchchin:

Perisphinctes does sound correct now that I try to think back. But I’m not so sure it was from France anymore. It was purchased from a rock store in Paris but may have been from elsewhere. Oh well. Thanks for the help!

Perisphinctes is one possibility, but it could also be a Parkinsonia. Pity you don't know the provenance. That would solve the riddle. You'd need to find someone familiar with the ammonite fauna in French strata and sites if that's the country of origin.

No Parkinsonia for me. The ombilic and the ribs are different. Certainly Perisphinctes (Dichotomosphinctes). But from where? That's the question
