A student brought this in for ID, it doesn't look like the normal bovine remains that I get. Any ideas?

I hadn't even considered that the bone wasn't relatively whole, it doesn't look broken. I looked at the calcaneums in my osteology book, but they don't have deer, of all things. Thanks guys.

Found it, between antelope and black bear. Harry, you were correct about not being enough left, size range is about right for white-tail though. I'll tell the student- Calcaneum from an artiodactyl, about the size of a white-tailed deer. That should be good enough to keep my legendary status as knower of all things obscure.
