rjay85
Hi not sure if I'm in the right area but I'm in need of help to identify a shark jaw. Is this where I would post a picture?

rjay85
Ok I'm going thinking either Bull, hammerheads or juvenile tiger
caldigger
It's not Hammerhead or Tiger so that's narrowing our choices down. The pic is a bit far away and fuzzy to see close up details of the teeth. Can we do some closer focused shots?

ziggycardon
It kinda looks like a great white jaw or a bull shark, but like @caldigger said, we will need to have close-up pictures of the teeth to make a proper ID. The shape and serrations are what is important for ID'ing it, also something for scale would be usefull, a ruler most preferably. The next sharks are listed as CITES appendix II species: which means if the jaw is from one of these species the seller will have to provide you with a document declaring the jaws were optained legally and a transfer receipt which states the species name, name & adress of both seller & buyer and both of your signatures. Carcharhinus falciformis, Carcharhinus longimanus, Sphyrna lewini, Sphyrna mokarran, Sphyrna zygaena, Alopias spp., Carcharodon carcharias, Lamna nasus. By my own surprise that's all the shark species listed on CITES appendix II, apperently no sharks species are even listed under CITES I. rjay85
Yeah I had some one try to sell me a sawfish bill a few months ago and I asked them for documents and they tried the old it's all legit etc etc and I laughed told them that they personally weren't worth me risking $10000 on a fine for. So nothing but extra cautious now.

Al Dente
Need close up pics but I can count the tooth files, 13-0-13 for upper and 12-1-12 for lower. Not enough tooth files for a dusky shark but within range for a bull shark (Carcharhinus leucas).
