N.Mckenzie
Found while fossicking for belemnites at the mouth of the Waikato River. South Side of Sunset beach. First picked as a belemnite but the curvature and lack of distinct central rings gave me pause. Edited July 12, 2019 by N.Mckenzie Max data upload kept me from adding extra images. Rockwood
Could be a trace fossil. The result of burrowing by an invertebrate.
N.Mckenzie
Had a feeling it may be a trace, thought I should leave it open as I'm a bit novice on this. Thanks kindly Rockwood
TqB
I agree it looks like a trace. I'd love to see some NZ belemnites! 1 Tarquin
N.Mckenzie
Thanks TqB! It was a pretty stormy day so couldn't spend much time there, but found a couple of fragmented pieces
TqB
Thank you! Nice furrow - Belemnopsis I guess, if they're both the same. Tarquin
