Mystery fossil in ancient European ax.

I've had this ax for several years. It comes from Denmark, or at least that area. Made of ground stone, it contains a fossil that is approximately 5mm long. I have wondered since I got this what that fossil could be. Any help is appreciated.

The ax:

Cropped and brightened:

What ever it is, it looks to be a cross section.

I'm not sure you will be able get anywhere attempting ID on this.

My first thought was graptolite, due to the sawtooth shaped projections, but that is a very wild guess.

But being a cross-section, I don't have high confidence in that.

Could it be flint?

Another wild guess: Longitudinal section of a sea urchin spine??

(All of them are located somewhat near Denmark ;))

Mine, too :D! But if it is flint, it is probably Mesozoic.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Bryozoan.

You have to disregard the center. It did not accurately silicifie, but notice the pore structure near the outside.
