North Sulfur River bone?

Creek - Don

Recommended Posts

Found this yesterday in North Sulfur River where I found the mosasaur vertebra.   I'm wondering whether this could be from same animal?

Not familiar with this area (state would help maybe) it’s always hard to tell with bone fragments. It’s possible that it could be from a mosasaur, but without details (the fragment is not particularly well preserved) it could be from anything. I would actually be more inclined to call this coral than a bone if I had found it. Some photos with scale provided and a clearer picture of both ends could help. I’ll reserve judgement until I see those in more detail, but I’m leaning towards it being coral.

I don't see bone in this piece or a coral for that matter. Could be wrong, but I cant see any features that would lead me to either of those.

It looks more like a coprolite if anything.

+1 vote for trace fossil. I’m not seeing the coral pattern I thought I saw in your third pic in these better photos.

Don,

I too do not see "fossil" here from the pictures [maybe in person(?].  I think I'm seeing a porous substrate (possibly L/S) with a (possibly) chert coating.  Hard to tell exactly from photos.
