Compy
Hi there, i found this tooth on an European auction site and was wondering whether the ID is correct and the quality of the tooth is acceptable. Now I am considering of buying it... Unfortunately there are no better pictures available. According to the rules I have edited them to hide any hints on the auction site. The tooth is labeled as „Edmontosaurus regalis“, the origin is: „Dog Bille quarry, Lusk, Wyoming“. Thanks in advance for your help!
Troodon
Edmontosaurus regalis is known from older Campanian/Early Maast. deposits (Horseshoe Canyon Formation) not found in wyoming. Material found around Lusk are Maastrichtian in age of the Lance Formation. Edmontosaurus annectens is the species found in those deposits which is what is being offered. Tooth appears to be only a partial specimen, looks broken.
Compy
Thank you very much for your expertise! For me from Europe it is difficult to get an overview of all the different sites and formations with their fossils in the US. ;-) Lesson learned: Never trust the ID of a seller...
