Fossil fish or marine reptile?

Jose Montemayor

Recommended Posts

This fossil was found last week by a worker of the quarry. I haven’t seen this kind of fossil before and is definitely an uncommon one around here. The fossil is not in a really good condition. I’ll post two pictures hoping I can find some help from you guys. The largest teeth are almost 1 inch long.

Thanks a lot!

Some kind of ichthyodectid fish for sure, someone could probably ID it more specifically with some more information about where it was found.

It was found in Vallecillo, Mexico. Fossils here are from Early Turonian. As far as I know, there as been found at least two ichthyodectid fish in this laggerstatte: Gillicus arcuatus and Vallecillicthys multivertebratum, but for me, they look nothing like this specimen.

Enchodus from me too

Looking forward to meeting my fellow Singaporean collectors! Do PM me if you are a Singaporean, or an overseas fossil-collector coming here for a holiday!
