    This wonderful echinoid was found in a truckload of sediment from the MM Quarry at Clarkes, New Bern North Carolina.

    If you have Kier's Oligocene paper I believe he calls this subspecies newbernensis. I know that subspecies have fallen out of fashion though! A rare find; congratulations.

    Don, I do indeed have Kier's Oligocene echinoid paper. From what I read of it, it seems the test shape slightly differs from the southern to northern end of the species range. I contemplated using the sub-species name as I have for other fossils, but decided against it on this one.
