This ammonite is the index fossil for its zone. It has an anomaly which can clearly be seen on the outer whorls at 9 o'clock. The external side is then exposed more than usual until it returns to normal at 3 o'clock. The small remnant of shell from the outer whorl of the body chamber from thereon shows how large the ammonite actually was.
