"SPINOSAURUS, The Lost Giant of the Cretaceous," Dr. Nizar ibrahim.
Presented by the Dallas Paleontological Society and The SMU Institute for the Study of Earth and Man
At The Hughes-Trigg Center at SMU, February 28, 2015 - 7:30pm
Dr. Nizar Ibrahim, of the University of Chicago, rediscovered a rare dinosaur named Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, which was previously known only from photographs of several vertebrae of the specimen that had been destroyed in the bombing of Munich during WWII. Dr. Ibrahim set out to solve one of the great mysteries in paleontology. He found a new, more complete specimen in Morocco and interpreted the dinosaur as semiaquatic, the only swimming dinosaur capable of hunting in water as well as on land. The massive terrestrial predator, the largest currently known, surpasses even Tyrannosaurus rex in size.
This lecture series honors Charles E. Finsley, the long-time curator of the Dallas Museum of Natural History in Fair Park, Dallas.
