Phragmocone with Sipho from Cenoceras sp.

Ludwigia

Something a bit out of the ordinary this time. This is a phragmocone member of a very large nautilus found near Frick in the Swiss jurassic. Lower Sinemurian, Arietenkalk. The object measures 10x9x8cm. I left the rest of the creature behind since it was impossible to salvage it intact and complete. It must have had a diameter of at least 50cm.! The sample was interesting for me since it shows pyrite, limonite and baryte cristallisation. The "wormy" thing lying in its "lap" is part of the siphon which is cristallized into baryte.
