Carcharodon carcharias (Neonate)

Pisco Formation, Departamento de Arequipa, Sitio Sacaco, Peru

Right Upper Lateral

A small tooth from a young-of-the-year great white (~ 1.5 m / 5 ft total length). Teeth of these very young individuals are narrower than adult teeth, and possess lateral "cusplets" - features that aid in their piscivorous (fish-dominated) diet.

Great Tooth... the cusplets amaze me...  Are the cusplets only in Peru or do you find them in other parts of the world? Found in Florida but I guess too large for Neonatal.  Thanks for sharing.2015Mar11thGWText.thumb.jpg.e72faba2eacb131e47b7a2c087208fdb.jpg
