teeth and pharyngeal plate from drum fish

tracer

the teeth were taken from inside other plates. these grinding plates are in the "throat" area of fish that eat hard-shelled food which they must crush up. when these mouth plates are found, the primary teeth on top are gone, but the replacement teeth inside the plate that were there to grown up into position as needed are still there, so i took some out to show. southeast texas pleistocene/holocene

Nice find! cool.gif Do you know the age & species? Looks similar to Upper Cretaceous Pycnodont plates & teeth.

I hope you just posted the description. If not I can't believe I missed it. blush.gif
