botryoidal growth of quartz
the center piece is a piece of petrified wood from the yegua formation with botryoidal quartz grown on what must have been a crack or void in the wood during the time it was buried and undergoing permineralization. the other pieces represent agate which took the botryoidal form as it filled in voids in volcanic basalt in west texas.
