The Winner of the March 2012 Invertebrate / Plant Find Of The Month is an incredibly prepared Coeloma sp. crab from the Oligocene Velje Fjord Formation, Brejning Clay of Limfjord, Denmark! Roger not only recognized the hidden potential in this rock, he also had the patience to reveal it! Bonus kudos and congratulations, Roger (Ludwigia)! :D

Thank you to every else who participated.

Congratulations Ludwigia,

That is amazing. The preservation is so supreme it looks like it is ready to throw that bad boy in a boiling pot of water with some Old Bay seasoning. Awesome find.

Well done Roger and I had the sincere pleasure of awarding your final vote. Had to hold onto it just in case my leaf was still a goose-egg on the scoreboard. :P The result of your amazing prep is certainly one of the finest Crab fossils ever and easily deserving the landslide victory as FOTM. Congrats :D

Thanks everyone. I agree with you all. Prepping it was a real job, but the crab itself turned out to be the star of the show. You never know how something's gonna turn out when it's partially hidden in stone (unless you've got X-Ray Vision), but his one just got my heart thumping away all the more I dug in. I was dreaming of finding something like this before I left for Denmark last summer, but of course I couldn't allow myself to get my hopes up too high. Being completely new to the region and it being also the middle of summer where the storms that dig up the fresh concretions are few and far between gave me little real hope of actually ever finding anything like this. Even my colleagues who collect up there regularly are impressed with this find and I thank my lucky stars that I was blessed with it. It was probably a once in a lifetime find for me since I really don't know if I'll ever get up there again.

But just to show you that I'm not alone with such a find, here's a link to some other nice examples, including one or two from Limfjord:

Thanx Ms. Brett! I've been dreaming of Texas ever since I got to know you two. I'm not planning yet, since I've got other priorities at the moment, but I'm keeping the idea warm on the back burner. Meanwhile, let's just enjoy ourselves. :D
