Hell everyone, I received fossils from Morocco. And half of them are broken. But this isn’t the main topic here. I took pictures for 4 fossils. May I know they’re real or fake, pleas? if they’re real, I would like to know what they are. Thank you very much. Fossil A: Frontal skull of Spinosaurus? Fossil B: pterosaur beak? Mouth? Fossils C: pterosaur beak? Mouth? Fossils D: Ulna bone of Spinosaurus? Thank you very much

Hi everyone! One of the goals for my collection is to eventually own a keichousaurus fossil as they’ve come to really fascinate and captivate me. I’ve done some research externally and on the forum about how to identify real or fake or restored keich fossils and I wanted your guys’ input on this specimen I’ve recently come across. Admittedly, the prep work on this keich fossil, if real, is pretty bad and is definitely not something I’d go after, but I wanted to see if my bit of research has payed off. My guess is that the specimen is real, however, it seems to me like it’s had a very unpleasant acid prep done to it with some sort of restoration in the distal bones, possible in the tail too. What do you think? I’d love to hear your guy’s thoughts.

Hi everyone, as I was looking for Carcharodontosaurus claws. I came upon this other claw instead. A handclaw (16,5 cm) from KemKem Basin, Taouz Morocco. What is your opinion on this claw?

This carcharodontosaurus rooted tooth is a composite?
Anchiornis_huxleyi posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello I recently came across this rooted carcharodontosaurus tooth, as always the suspicion is that the root is from another tooth and was placed next to this one. But I need help confirming my hypothesis, what leaves me in doubt is that some tooth cracks extend to the root. Could anyone help me figure out if this tooth is a fabrication?- 5 replies

How fake is this megalodon tooth?
Ronnie_cam posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Around six months ago, I began my beginner apprenticeship and collection on the megalodon. Like many others, I researched the potential size of these teeth and discovered that those above 6 inches (15.3cm) to a maximum of 7 inches (18cm) were quite rare. Therefore, I decided to stick to teeth below 5.5 inches (14cm) both to fit my budget and to avoid any potential mistakes. But I was intrigued if it was conceivable to find a gigantic tooth larger than 7 inches in length. I did save an online auction site listing from an Indonesian merchant who was auctioning off "monstrous" massive teeth. The vendor was auctioning off two of these gigantic sizes, one measuring 12 inches (30.5cm) and the other at 12.6 inches (32.1cm), of which I bookmarked the latter. I had entirely forgotten about the tooth and whether it had been sold several months ago because I am not an avid online auction site user. I became intrigued today and visited my bookmarked online auction site history to see that the 12.6 inch tooth had really sold for $$$$. (attached images). Therefore, I am curious about the authenticity of such a tooth. How realistic would it be in the first place, and how much of it is actually fake? Thank you -
Found this Drotops for sale from someone in my town. It looks weird to me, I need some opinions regarding this.

So I am thinking of getting this trilobite. The seller seems fine with nice specimens. This one though because it doesn't have a finding crack (I asked him in a message and indeed there isn't one) I was a little hesitant to proceed as I have heard that it is important for the originality of a Morocan trilobite to have one. I need some opinions on this matter.

CANADA: Is this a REAL MEGALODON Tooth??
JoelW posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi there, I am hoping some experts could help me determine if this tooth is real or not. I did some research and it appears to be a megalodon tooth (possible fake?) from the Pungo River Formation. I found it at a thrift shop and my Fiance was pretty annoyed I would spend so much on a fake tooth. It is odd to find at a thrift shop/red cross so that is why i am asking as well... Curious what you guys think this could be worth if you in fact think it is real.. i measure the longest point from the tip to the root edge at just over 5.5" (its difficult to show this in a picture). As a non-expert, I feel this could be real as it is fairly heavy, it does not seem like something cast in a single mold, the coloring is imperfect like it is natural and there are alot of different textures. The root is rougher, the enamel is very smooth and the part under the enamel looks like what i would think as bone. Super curious what everyone thinks! My fiancé is not too happy about me spending [price removed] on a fake tooth... HELP! -

Hi all, My sister recently purchased three trilobite fossils for next to nothing (at a thrift store), and I'm suspecting this one is fake or at least a composite. Don't see any preparation marks, and it smells like cement. Looks like it was cemented onto the grey rock. What do you guys think?

Orthoceras too long and tall to be real?
Planodave posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello all, I love reading the posts here and the knowledge base is amazing. Question, I came across these two specimens today and they seem really long "tall" and too perfectly straight to be real. They must be at least 4 foot tall. I have enclosed pictures and a close-up of a small section that is broken. Thank you all for the help. D- 9 replies

Fossil Trilobite Real or Fake?
Rikache posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi everyone! I was recently gifted this trilobite fossil, but after taking a look at it, it seems as though it may not be authentic. Although I don’t see obvious evidence of resin casting, i.e. air bubbles, the specimen does lack lots of clear detail in the head and in the eyes. I’m hoping it’s just a bad prep job, but realistically I’m leaning towards it being a fake as I’ve seen many Moroccan fabrications similar to this one. Any input would be greatly appreciated and thank you all so much for your help! -
Real or fake spinosaurus tooth? (New member)
Maxaurus posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello, my name is Max and I will begin collecting fossils. My passion for fossils and especially dinosaurs started when I was a child. I had lots of dinosaur toys, watched a lot of movies and documentations, studied facts about them and felt like a paleontologist with my excavation kits. My fascination for this prehistoric world has never been estinguished. That's why I decided to buy a tooth of a spinosaurus, which is one of my favorites. Before buying I have read some "real or fake"-topics here in the forum but I am still not sure if the tooth I'd like to buy is real, composited from different teeth or even fake. The tooth is very large (15.5cm) thats why I thought it could possibly be composited to increase the size. The selling shop states that the tooth was repaired. Would greatly appreciate any help from you. Thank you. Max -

Is it real? Struthiomimus center toe w/ claw & digits
connorghabra posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello, I was about to purchase this Struthiomimus specimen for my mother but I happened to come across this forum so I decided to make an account and post to see if you guys would be willing to offer any insight about the authenticity of these Struthiomimus claw & toe bones. The seller said he got the parts for this specimen from his friend that he has collected with before. He has plenty of testimonies going years back. Apparently the parts were all found within 10 miles of each other in Wilbaux County, Montana. -
Authenticating quartz (?) Keichousaurus?
Roses posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello! First, does anyone know what the mineral composition of most keich fossils is? The common darkly colored ones? Or does it vary a great deal? I have some idea what to look for in the “normal” dark keich fossils, but this one appears to be composed of mostly quartz…? Or is it something else? This seems challenging to fake and the photos look convincing to me, but I have no experience in comparing these white keich specimens. Is this likely to be real?- 9 replies

this is shocking... Christie’s Pulls T. Rex From Auction, Citing Need for ‘Further Study’ - The New York Times (nytimes.com) but, for my opinion its the right decision and Black Hills is absolutely right. I am a bit frustrated that the selled did not give the right infos about the T-Rex, no teeth are original, that it is a "cast" of Stan and no one really knows how many bones are original.... When a fossil like this will be offered for sale honesty is absolutely necessary! Hope the seller will be banned from Auction-Houses

Hi, I am not an expert, so I decided to ask for help in this forum. My Dream is to buy real fossils so I found a website with some interesting fossils, a keichosaurus and three Megalodon teeth. Can you help me to recognise if they are real fossils or not? thank you very much!
