Trying a Different Spot in the Mid-Atlantic Miocene

I've been hearing about Chippokes Plantaion State Park in Surry, VA for the last year or so. Finally got out there this weekend. Being a shell person, I was rather disappointed that the only thing one is allowed to collect at that park is shark teeth. But, they do allow something to be collected and pictures don't require more shelves to be installed in the family room. Here's a video I did f the trip: Plus a few still highlights: I I think the vultures were waiting for the cliff to fall on my head. Sun up, sundown and a beautiful day in-between The shells just carpet the beach at low tide! Look, Ma! Both valves! There was definitely more to that Ecphora. I just didn't take a picture after I pulled it out. All it was missing was the protoconch.

Hello all. I just wanted some advice on this drotops megalomanicus that I am considering adding to my collection. How is the prep work on it? It is 4.25 inches, which I thought was large. Would you go for it if you were me?

Well, we've had Brachiopods and Trilobites, so I figured let's give fish a try! I am going to start this off with my Enchodus marchesettii from the Hakel Quarry of Lebanon. Not only is this fossil 100% complete with the only restoration done was repairing the matrix itself, but I received this from one of my good friends on none other than my birthday! This is my favorite fossil in my ENTIRE collection! More will come from the Greenriver side of my collection, I just gotta get my camera fixed

Hi all, It has been sometime since I added something new to my collection but I just obtained a juvenile Xiphactinus. Discovered by my friend in Kansas many years ago. Both sides were preserved and so it was mounted on a rotatable stand. These are pretty rare nowadays in my opinion. Enjoy!

Hello! I found these two (nearly) identical pieces in an area west of Albuquerque, New Mexico, that would have been the eastern shoreline of the Laramidia continent during the cretaceous. I checked on a geologic map, and the exposed area is all cretaceous sediments. These samples are very hard, despite their seemingly brittle shape, and do not break or disintegrate even when I apply a lot of force to them. They have no other remarkable markings other than their very unusual shape. Do you have any ideas what they could be? Thank you!

Hello everyone, my name is Savvas and I am new to this forum, I am a collector of ancient coins for years and just yesterday I got my first fossil (trilobite) and I am really excited! My question is about a tooth of a mosasaur I found in the same store in my town that I got the one that bought yesterday, a good store for science gadgets and things like that, that sells some fossils but it is not their speciality. I have read some things about the teeth and know that the crowns are most commonly original, butmany times the matrix and the root is faked for artistic purposes, so the one at the store is a tooth not very big nor small, inside a matrix and has a root too, the root is small, the price is 40 euros. So I understand that without seeing it you can'treally tell, but can you please help me understand what are the signs of a fake one and of a real one so when I will go there to buy it to know what I see. I would really appreciate your help on this matter. Thank you kindly for all your help! -
Hi, new member and first post. I found this in a pile of rocks on the side of the road left when a landscaping company truck delivered a load to a new home. Sorry but that is as much as I can narrow down a location. Probably from a local area though as we don't order rock from out of state much around here.

hello everyone! I'm brand new to the forum and not really sure how I got here. I'm from newfoundland Canada and starting to get the collection rolling! there are not many areas here that are exactly great for fossil hunting but I have done some searching in alberta and Italy with the one and only specimen I have so far being a trilobite from Italy. My work takes me all over the world and I'm curious about what countries are on everyones bucket lists to fossil hunt in? I'm also looking to buy fossils to add to my collection because as we all know, what we find ourselves isn't always exactly what we want! I'm interested in large meg teeth, really all sorts of teeth! my dream collection will include triceratops horn, mammoth tusk, meg teeth, and anklyosaurus club. If we really want to get crazy I would see an egg of some type in the collection but definitely not interested in a reproduction. needs to be 100% so I doubt that one will come true! thank you for letting me in and I am looking forward to meeting many of you!

One of my favorite fossil types. Dinosaur eggs come in all shapes and sizes — from an oval as small as a thumb, to a sphere as big as a basketball. These fossils are often faked by the hundreds, if not thousands, in Chinese factories (China is also the world's richest source of true dinosaur eggs). However, there are also many natural-occurring objects mistaken as dinosaur eggs such as concretions or even fortuitously-shaped rocks. Despite these hurdles, dinosaur eggs remain one of the most desirable of all fossils. NOTE: Dinosaur egg and eggshells, by their nature as an ichnofossil, are challenging for private collectors to identify. None of the IDs I provide here are acceptable on a scientific level as I lack the tools to examine the cross section slices of my eggshells. However, for the sake of documentation I will still provide accurate names and locality here to the best of my ability. Unknown Fossilized jaw found on nemaha river in southeast corner of Nebraska

I was recently collecting down on the south fork of the nemaha river, looking through the glacial till gravel, and discovered this very well preserved jawbone. I am unsure of its age or species. Any information would be great to have. I can post other angles of it if needed

About 3 or 4 years ago I made a trade with a guy from New Zealand. Today I received the last part of the trade. Apon opening it up I knew immediatly that it was broken!!! After taking off the bubble wrap my heart just sank and I could see it was in many pieces! Im going to have a very hard time sleeping tonight. This thing was HUGE!!! Just glad no one is here to see me cry. RB

Genuine amber not releasing smell when heated.

Hello everyone. So I have a question about a piece of burmite amber in my collection that I am certain is authentic. It does not release a smell when heated...I've found that my darker colored specimens will release a stronger pine smell than the lighter colored ones, however. Why is this one not giving off any smell? I'm sure it's being heated to a temparure high enough to release the smell. It passed the saltwater test, distinguishes from copal with the acetone test, and has cracks and chips characteristic of amber. It has a rather large inclusion of half of some species of grasshopper. I've included pictures of it. Thank you for your help!

I dropped by the North Sulphur River near Ladonia, TX on the way back from a trip this weekend. I spend a few hours down in the river and found this little fragment of what looks like bone, very close to the bridge where the stairs are. I found lots of petrified wood, and baculite fragments, but this was pretty unique. Any help identifying this would be very appreciated.

Over this past weekend I took a trip to the Calvert cliffs(first time going, didn’t have much luck lol). I found this piece and was gonna see if I could get some help identifying it. I found it at bay front. Not sure if it’s anything but I couldn’t find anything like it to compare it to. Let me know if any other or different pictures would help identify it. Thanks all!
