Hey all These have popped up on my local buy/sell page, they're advertised as fossil teeth but I'm not experienced enough to confirm this - from the very little knowledge I have I'd guess Crocodilian....? Teeth from prehistoric predators always pique my interest so I'd like to know more before I even consider purchasing The catch is, there is zero information provided, the auction description simply states "Unknown species". That is it! I have talked to the seller about a Megalodon tooth he's selling, his knowledge on what he owns is poor, he's just been collecting interesting fossils for many years and is selling his collection so asking him for any more information would be futile. So, any guesses?

I found this rock on the edge of the hill in my backyard in Helotes, Tx. The previous heavy rains have exposed a lot on my hillside. I am in sure what the wood looking pieces are in pictures 3&4. If anyone is familiar, that would be great.

Mystery Piece Found Along With Edestus Teeth Illinois Coal Mine Carboniferous

Hi all, this strange piece came with a batch of edestus fossils that were found in a coal mine in Illinois. Have no idea what it could be, the front seems to be coated in black coal mostly while the back has what appears to be ridges. All I know about the location is it was found in a coal mine along with some edestus teeth that is Carboniferous in age. Hoping with some help to get to the bottom of this mystery.

Hello, I got this fossil dig kit at a rock and fossil store and I was wondering if there is anything I should know about collecting fossils from this formations shale before I open it up and use it? I was also wondering if anyone knows where kits like this are from so I can keep track. Images are of both sides.

I found it on a south west cliff/beach and it has a odd internal spine like thing. Any ideas? I’m quite bad at IDs as well, so any clues about it ? Please help. Here’s some photos hope this helps. Thanks for your time. God fossils still fry my brain, just thinking how old, and it’s trip to get into my hand still makes me go woah! Last 2 phots show the spine like thing quite well

Would greatly appreciate if anyone has thoughts on this bone found on the beach in Myrtle Beach. It is triangular, laterally compressed, and has a concave articulating surface on the long edge. I’m thinking some type of carpal bone? Turtle or dolphin, maybe. Thanks in advance!

Hi guys! So I'm planning to go back to one of the Calvert County beaches to try my luck again- I haven't had any success with finding teeth bigger than about a quarter inch and I'm hoping to find something a little bigger next time. My current technique is to dig up sand from the water and sift through it super carefully- should I switch it up and try something different to find big teeth? If so, does anyone have any recommendations for how to find them? And, final question, which beaches are good for finding larger specimens? I know Purse and Matoaka are good for quantity but I don't know which are best for finding big fossils. I'm still very new to tooth hunting so any help would be appreciated!

If any one would be so kind as to help us ID these specimens for my son's geology project that would be great. I hope that it is ok to post more than one at a time. I was outside but the light wasn't great for my macro setting so I had to use my flash. All were found in South Eastern Kansas. And I didn't realize until just now that I forgot to add in a way to tell size so if I need to retake them I can do it in the morning. Thank you so much for all your help.

Hey everyone. I found these in a creek while traveling around Ohio. The areas are known for fossils, but I can't tell if these are actually teeth or if they are just some kind of rock formation. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Hello everyone, I am hopeful that I can get some information about this rock/fossil. I see quite a few different shapes in this guy here, but I need to make sure that my imagination is not running away with me. I don’t know if I should keep trying to brush clean, to show what I believe is the fossil. or continue. My Indian artifacts consume a lot of spare time, and space enough as it is. but now this guy got me really intrigued. thanks in advanced everyone.

I'm visiting DeLand for a week and a half, and really want to find a spot to search for fossils or shark teeth, haven't found many online and I know people have their own secret spots. Pm me locations if you don't want to share them publicly guys, I am only hand searching with a few family members. I am willing to drive a couple hours to spend a day hunting fossils

I need these pictures to find the right person, I have tons of pictures for they are all local to me. I can send examples to you. Ok so here's what I think, I think these rocks were formed right after the ice age, from animals from right when the ice froze over. They must have thawed out turning into the ocean, (animals becoming part of the ocean floor from all the sediment and debri) then after millions of years they became part of the earths crust, then being broken up by an earthquake or maybe an asteroid?! I am sorry for the length of this txt. I am looking for help verifying the ID of a fossil I've been finding for close to 20 years now. It is a very dificult to see poorly fossilized shrimp or trilobite like creature that everyone I've spoken to tells me can not exist. I am having a dificult time getting pictures that people on other sites will take seriously as the lines defining the structure of the creature are nearly undistinguishable from the stone itself. Everyone wants to call it pareidolia and say there is nothing there. Four or five individuals I've spoken to, whom have taken the time to actually look at it have seen it after I've pointed it out several times and sketched over a picture. They eventually get the typically *holy snarge I can see it look and then go on to profess they have no idea what it could be. So it seems that some people are capable of seeing the same things I do. But honestly I'm tired of people proclaiming to have degrees treating me like I'm some spoiled child when they can't see it so I am flat out refusing to posting pictures and an explination of it unless I one; can get an explination as to why it's a natural formation and why rocks with natural formations have markings that exactly resemble the cells of chitin found on modern crayfish and lobster, or I get someone with true knowledge who can explain something about what I'm looking at. I started recognizing this in local stone almost 20 years ago. No one I have showed it to in all that time has so much as come up with a guess as to what it might be. Most can't see it at all, though it takes no special ability to do so. It just requires a maticulous attention to detail. And a willingness to believe that there are things in the world that have not been discovered yet. This is a thing that has been discovered, and is actually fairly well known. But noone believes it can fossilize in this format. And their is no mention of it ever being found in this location before. I'm not willing to argue with anyone about it's validity as a fossil. It is organic and it is a fossil unless you can explain as I've mentioned above. I will not accept any other answer period! That may make me sound uncooperative and hostile I apologize if that's what you see or think. I'll do everything in my power to explain what I'm seeing and get you to see it as well. But I'm done making enemies by refusing to accept that this is not a fossil. Either work with me and help me prove it. Or don't. But if you act like the teenagers on other sites I've made the mistake of looking for answers on I don't need your input. That said I've seen nothing but courtesy and respect from the people here so far so I'm going to try this one last time. Please respond if you are interested and I will post pictures and explinations as I have them as a new topic under this one

Hello. There are many indicators to be authentic, but being such a common piece to forge, I would like someone to confirm it for me. This is the description of the sale: ...size of 10.5 cm... a 13 x 9.5 cm concretion. ... it has restorations.
