I would like help clarifying whether a memory I have is accurate. It's about Fort Wayne, Indiana. I recall stopping in Fort Wayne, Indiana, or the suburbs thereof, at a quarry entrance, in ~2012. We did not enter the quarry, we just picked from the little garden of fossil-rich rocks that the quarry had dumped out in a public area for public use. I recall picking classic Middle Devonian fossils from a carbonaceous shale / shaley limestone that I assume was the Silica Formation. This would have been overburden worth dumping for a quarry quarrying the underlying Dundee Limestone, so piles of Silica Formation fossils make sense logically. I know the quarry at Paulding, Ohio, has something similar -- a community fossil garden out front. But this memory of mine seems to be associated with a Fort Wayne quarry. Is my brain totally making it up? Has anyone been to this place in Fort Wayne? Thanks.

I've been looking into northern Georgia for quite awhile now. After the closing of Tibbs, I've been trying to find other locations, I've found one other locality that was covered. My question is, is there any other locations that people have had luck at? I've tried Floyd county but I've only been coming up empty. Any information helps.

Hi All!! My name is Curtis. I'm a retired software system architect and configuration engineer. Former geologist & geophysicist with an expertise in igneous and metamorphic petrology and remote sensing. Done some mapping and field work in the Colorado Plateau, but mostly California Coast and Transverse Ranges, southern Baja. California volcanoes were a specialty. I donated my California fossil collection to the San Diego Natural History Museum back in 2012, but I'm interested in collecting again, focusing mostly on cephalopods.

Hey all! Other than fossil hunting backpacking is my biggest hobby. I want to combine the two but am having a hard time finding a good hike with at least 2 locations to stop and dig around. I was looking at some trails in north carolina but I know most places within walking distance of the trails are a no go on collecting. Im looking for something between 20-30 miles, not a big deal if it's smaller. Anywhere within the eastern United States would be ideal. Here's some photos from my favorite hikes last year. Not big ones just a couple 3-5 miles in michigan and Ohio and one 22 miler in michigan.

Hi, everyone. I’m brand new here, so, pleased to meet all of you! I’m wondering if any of you know of locations in the US where you can dig for dinosaur fossils (body and/or trace) on a one-day-at-a-time basis and keep some of the material found. Thanks in advance.

Over April break I will be traveling to Horseshoe Bend in northern Arkansas for a week. I am hoping to get the opportunity to do some fossil hunting while I’m there and I’m wondering if anybody knows of any fossil hunting localities in northern Arkansas that they would be kind enough to share with me.

It's been a while. This weekend, my mom is taking a trip to Cantonment, FL to visit my uncle. I know FL has some good spots (namely Bone Valley and Co.), but I am not very knowledgeable of what you can find in the panhandle. Does the Pleistocene/Miocene show up in Cantonment, or something else, or nothing at all?

Hello, I am new to fossil hunting and was wondering if I could get any pointers on localities in my area. NW Iowa, NE Nebraska, SE South Dakota, SW Minnesota. I know sometimes people like to keep these things secret but if you could point me in any direction it would be much appreciated, thanks and happy to be on the forum.

Hi There! I'm going to be travelling down good 'ol Route 66 from Illinois to Arizona, and looking for some good fossil collecting localities (i.e., roadcuts, etc), near the Mother Road. I am especially interested in Missouri, Oklahoma, anything in the Amarillo area, and New Mexico. We're going to be staying at grandma's house in Gold Canyon, Arizona - and since grandma sleeps a lot I figure I'll have some time to sneak out and explore that area too! Suggestions? Any help would be appreciated immensely. Thank you, and have an aweosme day! -Roadcut Hannah, her fossil-collecting family, and friends (Paleo Heather, Brachio Barbara, and DinoGabe).
