  1. Hello everybody, as I mentioned in my Welcome Topic, I'm new to this whole topic but would like to start my own little fossile collection. In Europe (I live in Germany) there are a lot of sellers with teeth and bones from KemKem / Morocco since it's just over the mediterranean sea. So i thought that it would be the easiest way to start with the most generic fossils out there. Here are some teeth and a vertebra from Carchaodontosaurus and Spinosaurus that look interessting to me. Every item is described as not repaired or fabricated. With some of them I'm really not sure. They are from different sellers. I can't provide any more or better pictures. These are the only pictures available. Pictures are all from the different sellers. I cut away their names. Thank you so much for any information and help you can give me. Carcharodontosaurus Tooth #1, length 2.44 in Carcharodontosaurus Tooth #2, length 1.85 in Carcharodontosaurus Tooth #3, length 1.67 in Carcharodontosaurus Tooth #4, length 1.77 in Spinosaurus Tooth #1, length 3.10 in Spinosaurus Tooth #2, length 3.94 in Spinosaurid Vertebra, length 2.83 in I'm really not sure what to think about this one. Can anyone really tell if this is from a Spinosaurid or is it just some unidentified bone?

    Moroccan small mystery

Here is a link to an entry of a post in the "fossil preparation" topic. I was hoping to get some opinions as to the ID of the mystery fragment cited; and reasoned this may be a more productive placement. Thanks for any help.

    IDs please on Moroccan teeth

Hi I got a small box of fossil off a lady dog walker in the village last year. I did try and get some IDs before but I was new and did not know anybody on the forum . They was her late husbands . She said he got them in the 1990s on holiday in Africa and the box was labelled Morocco . Please if I could have an ID to label them and what the maybe from. Thank you so much Bobby.
  4. Hey all, I recently picked up a mosasaur tooth, relatively large (2 inches) at a local rock and minerals store. It was for a great price, but from my standpoint it seems too good to be true. Some help here would be much appreciated
  5. A very large Moroccan centrum is being offered for sale. Seller identifies it as a Carcharodontosaurus. In my opinion this looks more like a Sauropod with that very large pleurocoel in the lateral view. Not sure what is going on with that purplish looking material if its been added. Spinosaurus tail, caudal vertebra being offered for sale no mention of any repairs. The centrum does look like its from a Spinosaurid but the processes look composited. You can see the typical Moroccan matrix mix between those processss and centrum. Seller is advertising this as a Carcharodontosaurus toe bone. Identifying isolated toe bones to a species in the Kem Kem is very difficult not much is published that describes them. Its a nice bone buy it as an indeterminate Theropod. Lots of eggs are showing up for sale. Most are fake....this is just a reminder of that, please post interests here before you buy. I still see some dealers offering Rugops teeth for sale from the Kem Kem. Just a reminder that this species is only described from the Echkar Fm of Niger. Most of the teeth offered are Abelisaurid but are indeterminate from the Kem Kem until something is published. For fun saw this 4 figure listing, seller describes it as a petrified baby dinosaur skull with teeth, skin and brain matter coming out of the side of its mouth looks like an alien head to me.
  6. A cool tail vertebra is being sold as the Diplodocoid Rebbachisaurus is the ID correct? Kem Kem Beds. Any resto or repair evident. Thank you
  7. PART 1, acquisition This piece was acquired via the "for sale" section of the Forum. The seller, @Fitch1979, Dries offered several jaw specimens, which were clearly superior to the mostly spurious Internet auction site examples. Dries provided some provenance on the fossil. It had resided in his family's private collection for over 26 years. It had been purchased at a gem and mineral show in Ghent from a collector who acquired the specimen in 1978. After a pleasant exchange with Dries, a bargain was struck and the specimen shipped on December 9, 2017. Since the piece was located in Belgium, arrival involved a seemingly interminable wait. Finally, the tracking indicated arrival at US Customs on December 29th. Then the real wait ensued. The tracking was not updated until January 22, 2018. At that time notice was given that the package had been turned over to the "postal operator." Curiously, it arrived on my SC doorstep that very day! It was a surprise to open the door and find the huge (shipping weight 28 lbs.) shipping box resting there. Here is the image posted to the Forum offering the fossil for sale. ...to be continued
  8. A 3" Carcharodontosaurus Foot Claw is being offered for sale from the Kem Kem of Morocco by a pretty respected dealer. It looks pretty nice but is it identified correctly and repairs or restoration visible? Thank you.
  9. Recently picked up some un-prepared trilobites while in morocco there is some Cambrian trilobites pictured here which have not had the full prep done yet so I understand some might not be fully identifiable. Thanks Matt

    What are These Bones?

So a while back I was given these fossils along with a Spinosaurus tooth. He said that they were all from the same area and that they were both vertebrae. I can see the touch up on the larger one obviously but it still seems real because of the spongy meterial from the one view. I was just wondering if you could ID these for me I’m pretty new to the fossil scene. Thanks.

    My dinosaur fossils

Hello friends. I am new to this forum and I would like to show you my teeth and dinosaur claw so you can help me identify them, tell me if they are repaired and tell me what their value is. I hope you like them.
  12. Hi, Saw this for sale, was thinking of purchasing it, but wanted to confirm if this is indeed Plesiosaur. it is quite large for a partial paddle at 14 inches in length and from the Goulmima region in Morocco. Thanks.
  13. I've been looking at this 9 cm tooth at an online shop, but it's identified as Suchomimus tenerensis from Hamada gu Guir, Kem Kem, Morocco, and as far as I can gather, Suchomimus has only been found in Niger. I'm very much an amateur but I haven't seen striations on any Spinosaurus teeth I've come across. Any ideas?

    Kem Kem IDs

I recently acquired two bits of bone which I would appreciate any thoughts on. Before I go further, my guesses are crocodile and fish. So, here's the first one, a piece of jaw with the remains of two visible sockets and a piece of tooth still within the jaw. The two dark areas at the top are the sockets. Got to be crocodile, I assume? I don't think I've seen one with such a broad, flat area surrounding the teeth though. Here's the side view, showing the sloping sockets and the broken tooth. The bottom This side appears to have been attached to something. As you look at this picture, the teeth would have emerged from the top, along the other side. This item is more puzzling. I think I may have seen something like it before. It has the look of something fishy to me. The underside. As always, any thoughts would be appreciated.
  15. Some very large +5" Rooted Mosasaur teeth and Jaws are being offered for sale. The crowns appear to have been reattached and may be a composite. This is not your typical white fill that you normally see from Morocco but a darker blend to be more natural and not stand out. Typical of the type of work that you now see coming from Spain. Unfortunately there is no mention of any repair done to these items. More reason to me even more attentive with any Moroccan material. Use caution if interested and post your desires here before you purchase A sampling of the teeth being offered..... Tooth 2 Tooth 3

    I’ve got a Weltonia Question

So you see from Morocco (Ouled Abdoun, late paleocene- early Eocene?) These funky looking Cow sharks called Weltonia ancistrodon. Though I don’t own one, I still have questions about it. The questions I have are the following: 1) There are always lowers. Never, not once, have I seen for sale an upper. Where are they? What do they look like? What about Symphyseals? 2) Have they ever been found anywhere else? I find it hard to believe they only come from the one site. 3) what is the purpose of the weird blade? Any papers on this?
  18. Hello, calling to all experts on Moroccan fossils - are these fossils real? Kasia
  19. This is a continuation of the previous threads about the Plesiosaur jaw (Found near Goulmima, Morocco) that was for sale.... So i was thinking about the teeth that came with the jaw i bought, i asked a plesiosaur expert and he believes that the teeth look like they are from a Pliosaur as they don't seem to match Zarafasaura or Thililua. The teeth however, are quite slender (the bigger one is 1.5 inches and the smaller is around 1 inch), so i wanted to ask about any diagnostic features on either of the teeth that can help describe it to family level - especially since the teeth were associated with the jaw and if i can narrow down the teeth, then the jaw can be narrowed down too. Any ideas?

    Small spino tooth? Or croc?

Hey. @JohnBrewer kindly gave me this little tooth as a bonus to go with my Tyrannosaurid indet tooth (I will soon be posting it on my latest mailbox score thread ) I was wondering if it was a Spino or a Croc tooth. They look quite similar. To me it looks like a juvenile spino but I could be wrong. Really don’t know. It is 1,5cm. Here are some pictures. What do you think? Regards.

    Unknown Kem Kem Beds, Teeth

I have a few teeth here that i could you some help identifying! I'm thinking between a Crocodile or Raptor for the first tooth posted (includes photo of each side). The second photo contains multiple teeth that look to be from the same organism, however i have no clue as to what it could be. All of these teeth are from the Kem Kem Beds of Taouz, Morocco. The single (Crocodile/Raptor?) tooth is .53" (14 mm) long by .31" (8 mm) wide by .2" (5 mm) thick.
  22. Hi, So i have another question. Just saw this on our favourite auction website (no surprise there), listed as a Carcharodontosaurus dorsal. It is 9.25 inches long and not sure exactly what diagnostic features to look out for. Can anyone help narrow down what it could be. Also is there any red flags to watch out for - the seller says there are some glued and filled fractures but wondering if anything has been fabricated (looks almost too nice). Thanks.
  23. Hi, Saw this hand claw for sale and wanted to know if it is real. I am a bit suspicious because the tip has a different texture to the back half of the claw. Not sure if there is any repair/restoration but wanted to check to make sure that it isn't a composite. The claw is 4.8cm long and from the Kem Kem (this is the only information the seller has listed). Thanks.
  24. These bones from the Kem Kem Beds of Morocco are being offered for sale as Spinosaurus Phalanx Toe Bones. They appear to be carpals, hand bones, and most likely from one of the Spinosaurid's in that fauna. Please note that I've yet to find any technical paper that describes any Spinosaurid hand bones The seller indicates only some glued and fill fractures however the excessive matrix on both these carpals might indicate otherwise. The distal end of the carpal on the right appears to have lots of "fill"
