Good afternoon to all. A colleague and I were doing some exploring in a creek bottom on our jobsite located in Fannin County, Texas. The creek we were walking in drains into the North Sulphur River. As we were walking we noticed a large bone sticking out of the creek bank. We decided to grab a couple of shovels and do a little more excavating. We came across multiple bones. As you may see in one of the pictures, we had to do a little digging in order to reach much of the bones, they definitely weren't just lying in the creek bank. I will upload more pictures with measurements. I kinda want to gauge if we stumbled across actual fossils, and if so we were hoping for some sort of inclination of what we may have found. The coordinates for the find are 33.4122,-96.0804. We were at least 15 feet below the grade of the jobsite in the creek.

Worn Protosphyraena Tooth? Found in North Sulphur River, TX
bluefish1766 posted a topic in Fossil ID
Hi all My kids and I found this tooth in one of the feeder creeks of the NSR in May. Someone said that it could be a worn Protosphyraena tooth. The leading edge is sharp; whereas, the trailing edge is round. It's also mostly compressed and broad-based. Any information or thoughts is much appreciated! Thanks!- 2 replies

Okay, this may be just wishful thinking, but a girl can hope, right? For your viewing pleasure is an Upper Cretaceous coprolite from the North Sulphur River in Texas, Ozan Formation, Talyor Shale. This little beauty has some unusual fish remains. Any chance this is a caudal fin from a coelacanth? The bones are pretty substantial compared to other fish bones I've seen in coprolites from the area. It does contain scales that are good sized and pretty transparent, with kind of a fingerprint pattern. Obviously, they may not be from the same prey item. Can anyone tell me if these are indeed coelacant bones? If so, do they look like those from a caudal fin? Other thoughts? @Fossildude19 @sharkdoctor @Carl Image 1:

I had a pretty uneventful - but beautiful - day on the North Sulphur River last weekend, but came home with a fossil that has me puzzled. It's 2 1/2" long, slightly curved, with smooth surface texture. I'm assuming it's a tooth of some sort? Thanks for your help!
