Hello, I am brand new at starting to look for artifacts and fossils and was hoping to get the opinions of some more experienced people. I just recently found this item,(which after some initial research, my best guess is a cow or bison tooth) and was looking to see what others thought it might be. I found it on a sandbar on the Missouri River near St. Louis, MO. I was curious if there were any features about it such as color or something else that also might indicate if it is relatively new or a pretty old tooth. Let me know if you need any more information. Thanks for your help! -Brad

Hi all. I recently acquired a plesiosaur tooth from morocco, khourigba, phosphate deposits. In a facebook group i was told the tooth is thicker than any known teeth from the area. Have the attentive reader here seen any teeth of this thickness? The tooth is about 2 inches long.

Hey guys, I purchased this tooth as an Allosaurus tooth from the Morrisson formation, USA It’s a juvenile. However, I saw that the mesial serrations ended very soon and someone pointed out it’s possibly a megalosaurid because of that. Is there a way of knowing? Maybe @Troodon can help. Any imput is appreciated. Kind regards

Hi guys! Just found this big tooth in Ramanessin Creek in Holmdel, NJ earlier today. It's about 2" long and in excellent condition. Probably the largest tooth I've ever found. I know that it's either a croc, mosasaur or plesiosaur, but I'm not sure which. Any help with the ID would be greatly appreciated! Sorry for the poor pics, I'm still out collecting and my curiosity couldn't wait!

Complete newbie. This may not even be a tooth. But there’s been some building work near us (Oxford, UK) and diggers have unearthed lots of unusual rocks. We’ve found plenty of belemnites and now this. Any ideas?

Can someone help me identify this tooth I found at Garden City Beach in South Carolina around 20 years ago? I have had a few people look at it, and they can't seem to determine what it is.

I found this tooth that looks petrified while digging a garden in NC, USA. It appears to have cavities. I cannot find a tooth of a dog, wolf or bear that looks similar. The tooth is wider than most K9 teeth photos I’ve seen online. Any ideas of origin and estimate age would be greatly appreciated if visually identifiable.

I found this fossil in Thousand Oaks, Ventura County, California, USA. It was partially uncovered in soil located near the lowest point in a small canyon, definitely wouldn't call it a river bottom, but more like a seasonal drainage. Loose clay soil type. As you can see in the photos, it is a pretty substantial chunk of rock, with a smooth, enamel-like surface on the "top" that also appears to have (or previously had) protrusions like might be expected on a molar tooth. From a brief novice-level search effort, it looks somewhat similar to some mastodon molar images I was able to find online, but definitely not a confident match. The fact that the top surface is enamel-like is the reason that I'd guess it's some kind of tooth, otherwise it also loosely resembles some plant bulbs or root structures like ginger, turmeric, fennel, etc.

Megalodon Tooth, fancy colours
Ezio Bonsignore posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Megalodon theet are not difficult to find, but I'm attracted by this one (sopposedly from Indonesia) both because of its size (12.42cm) and its colours. Seller admits to root restoration (I can see that myself...), erosion and cracks, and says that "colours may change slightly as it dries out"(?). What would you suggest - worth pursuing? Thanks -

Spinosaurus tooth good or bad?
Johnf692 posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
First time poster to this forum, though have enjoyed reading through all the many topics. I received this 3” spino tooth as a gift and the more I read all of the other similar questions regarding real or fake, how good is it, etc., I got curious about mine. Paperwork says it’s from the Kem Kem beds, and my uneducated eye thought it seems to be in good shape, without too much restoration, but I’m curious to see what all the experts have to say. Your thoughts would be much appreciated!- 4 replies

Hi everybody Newbie from Belgium here. Been collecting, trading, swapping fossils for over a year now. Nice little amateur collection, bit of preparation-trails,... I've been wondering if there are specific techniques in the final preparation of teeth? Most of the high value teeth I see on *insert auctionsite* seem to have this shine/luster/gloss to them which makes them very pleasing to the eye. The photos of the Carcharodontosaurus-tooth show what I mean. I have about 10 of these (+7cm), but in no way as "shiny". Has there been any coatingproces to the original tooth to get this effect? Completely new to this specific field of knowledge - so I rather ask "the experts" on this forum.

Hi, sorry posted a bunch at once and they are probably all just rocks but really enjoy looking at the posts here and attempting to participate. This rock was interesting to me because it is incredibly shiny, moreso than in the photos and particularly on one side, the flat one. And, it has that flat side that looks almost organic. Around the smallest tip of it, there seems to be a ring but not sure if that shows up well in photos and a straight ridge along the flat side. The other side is indented a couple millimeters. I know its probably a rock but it looked interesting enough to me to photo. It is approx 4 inches long. Found on East Coast USA. Thanks for looking.

Hi everyone, I have what I thought was a mammal tooth until I cleaned the end off. From research online the end looks tusk like but I don't want to get over excited. Let me know what you think. Size is 1.8 inches

Hi TFF friends, I fear this thread might be in the wrong place. If it is the case, my apologize. I am currently compiling all sorts of data about Plioplatecarpinae and i would like to add photos of plioplatecarpinae's tooth. I browsed the world wide web for photos. I found some but i would like to add more. If you have in your collection, teeth from a genus belonging to this sub-family, could you please send me (by answering this thread so everybody enjoy your photos) if possible a photo of the labial/lingual/ distal/apex view of the tooth? Your help is invaluable. Thank you so much.
