Real or fake? Unidentified Moroccan Trilobite purchased in UK
I-am-the-eggman posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
So I bought this Trilobite from what seemed to be a very reliable place, although no information was given about the species or age of the fossil, just that it came from Morocco. I’m new to fossil hunting and by no means am an expert however I heard that Moroccan Trilobites have a habit of being fake. I myself am fairly convinced it’s real, due to the fact it’s quite detailed, however as I say I’m no expert so it would be good to have someones input. If more pictures are needed please let me know. Also if you know what classification it is I’d like to know that too. -
I have come across, for sale, a pyritized agnostid trilobite from the Wheeler Shale. I was curious if anyone had seen these before, and if so, how susceptible were they to pyrite disease? It's quite a nice specimen but I don't want to waste money if it's guaranteed to rot in a year or two.

What is this trilobite? Devonian/Ordovician? (Bardstown Kentucky)
Bone Daddy posted a topic in Fossil ID
Here is a piece of shale(?) that I believe is from a locality near Bardstown Kentucky and either Devonian or Ordovician deposits. There is nifty-looking trilobite with detailed eyes popping out of the rock matrix. Can anyone verify what type/species of trilobite this is? Thanks! -
I went with the Delaware Valley Paleontological Society to a few spots in Central New York last month. Cole Hill Rd. in Hubbardsville has several outcrops on private land where the owners are willing to share with fossil hunters. We scrabbled up and down the scree - Whee- and found our fill of trilo-bits, including one Dipleura cephalon covered with druse calcite, plus oodles of brachiopods, nautiloids, straight-shelled cephalopods, gastropods of all different shapes, and bivalves. I learned a tough lesson that afternoon. Always wrap your specimens as you go. Not only will they keep from breaking, but they are easier to find when your bucket tips and tumbles down the hillside across countless tons of scree There were lots of pained faces around me as I hunted down the things I'd already found.. It took me half an hour to recover everything I could, but the best ones managed to make it home. Dilpeura trilobite cephalon Another trilobite cephalon, found by someone else in the group. This one is covered in sparkling calcite. Crinoid holdfast? with Ptomatis rudis gastropod unknown, probably nautiloid Cornellites fasculata bivalve Palaeozygopleura sp. misc. unknown brachiopods If anyone has any ideas, I'd like to hear them. This spine-shaped object is about 6 inches long. I'd discount it as variations in the rock color, but the left end is curved outward from the matrix. Worm trace fossil. They made carpets of these on the sea floor.

I found this pygidium the other day in the Silurian Racine formation near Chicago, wondering if any trilobite specialists can help with species ID? I'm thinking Illaenus ioxus (is that current nomenclature?)but not sure. Thanks for any help.

Is this Trilobite real?
Constantine posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello everyone im new here , really exited to find this forum for discussion and information about fossils. Now to my problem i bought this trilobite 28cm (''cambropallas telesto'' if im not mistaken) from a local store from what they said to me this was imported from UK, when i got a closer look seemed to me that most of the ridges of the trilobite are engraved man-made by some kind of clay. So my question is any part of it real? I would have posted more pics but the files are too big. Thanks in advance.- 4 replies

A very successful hunt (for me) in the Toronto area!!!
Monica posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
Hi everyone!!! I had the afternoon to myself today because William and Viola are at day camps this week and my husband was busy, so I decided to check out Mimico Creek (Georgian Bay Formation, Upper Ordovician) by myself for a couple of hours. I didn't make many finds, but the finds I did make were super-amazing (by my standards, anyway ). As I was walking along the creek when I first arrived, I was checking out the wall of rock when I noticed a pattern: After gently prying out the rock, this is what I found: Hooray!!!!!!!!!! My first Flexicalymene granulosa!!!!!!!!!! For those of you who have read my trip reports and ID requests in the past, especially when I first started fossil-hunting in 2016, I always went out hoping to find a trilobite, and today I succeeded!!!!!!!!!! I then spent about an hour mucking about, not finding much, when I decided to hammer a big slab of rock that had some worn bivalves on the surface. Lo and behold, hidden underneath that layer of rock was the most beautiful Treptoceras crebriseptum orthoconic nautiloid that I had ever seen!!!!!!!!!! The bottom part of the fossil doesn't appear to have septal divisions, and it's a little flatter than the rest of the fossil - could it be the living chamber?!?!?! I cannot believe my luck today - this has been my best day of fossil-hunting in the Toronto area in the past 3 years!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!! I do have to play it cool at home, though - I don't want Viola to be disappointed that she missed out (I haven't yet told her what I did today - it'll be a secret for a while). @JUAN EMMANUEL @Wrangellian @Ludwigia @Malcolmt - I thought you might like to see- 63 replies

This weekend we're taking a long weekend up to the Niagara Falls NY area. We're going to be doing the typical tourist stops plus a visit to Penn Dixie. . Based on the weather forecast I would assume to be there at opening time to avoid the afternoon heat and possibility of thunderstorms. I don't know yet if we're going to be there on Saturday or Sunday. Is there any tips or suggestions for first timers to Penn Dixie? We have a rock hammer, mason's hammer, an engineer hammer and several cold chisels. Also on a totally unrelated note any restaurants in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area that anyone would recommend for the family. Thanks for any information and I will post a field report early next week.

As before, hopefully one of the trilobite experts can identify this specimen. This is another unidentified trilobites I collected from the Ordovician Liberty Hall Formation near Blacksburg, VA many years ago. It is 7/8 inches long. I've been collecting at that site for since the mid 1980's off and on and this is the only specimen of this trilobite I've found. Let me know what you think. Thanks
