Petrified Wood with what looks to be cuts in it
ImmaFrayedKnot posted a topic in Questions & Answers
I found this beautiful piece today along the Arkansas River bank in Colorado. I have a few other pieces of petrified wood but this is the largest that I've found and it almost looks to have been cut with something before hardening. Just curious if this is usual. The cuts are not very deep and I've tried to get the best pictures I can of them.- 2 replies

I found this strange fossil near Sand Springs on the Arkansas River of Northeast Oklahoma back in 2013 or so. I was told by multiple sources that it appears to be a chunk of seabed. Is this from the Devonian/Mississippian period? Can anyone ID any of the fossils on this piece? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! I have a few other specimens I would love to identify as well! :)) ~Noah Benzing

Hey all, I found this in the Arkansas River mud right in the middle of Wichita, KS. It was in one piece but it broke when I was tapping a tarantula wolf spider out of its bone home

We have had a lot of flooding this May/early June in NE Oklahoma. Lakes up north(Keystone Lake for example) have been releasing water at high fps which has kept the Arkansas River running high and fast for several weeks. The last two days the river was lower as we have had a break from heavy rains for several days and I was able to finally explore the new river edges (lots of new sand dunes) and some sand bars. I have two items that are probably just rocks but would appreciate any help in identifying them. I read up on a post of the geological periods of the Arkansas River near Tulsa from a post in the forum by Petro Pete. Here is the link but it seems its quite a mix. http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/36993-fossil-hunting-guide-to-tulsa-ok-and-surrounding-areas/ The first object looks to me like fossilized bone surrounding something in the center The second object just has a peculiar shape but might just be a piece of iron mineral

I obtained a bone fossil collected from the Arkansas River in Eastern Oklahoma but not sure what it belongs to. I am including several photos from various angles. The dimensions are as follows in centimeters(cm): 16.5 cm x 9 cm (about 0.64 cm in thickness but it varies slightly). The darker brown sections appear to be the outside of the fossil while some parts are interior(?); not sure about the black portions. Any help on what it might belong to and perhaps what part of the structure would be awesome!

I am new to collecting and know very little about the exact names used in these blogs so I appologize in advance. This bone was found 4/19/2015 in the Arkansas River located in Tulsa Oklahoma. The size is 1-1/2" length, 1" width, 1" tall. It isn't allowing me to add additional pictures.
