I am leaving tomorrow for a five day trip to explore some of the Moroccan Middle, High and Anti-Atlas Mountains and parts of the Sahara. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I seem a bit overexcited, it's because I am. This will be my first Moroccan collecting trip since the TB struck me in 2011/12. I won't be posting on a day by day basis, i don't think, as my laptop stays here and wifey's phone thing is beyond me. However, wifey's presence for the first time on one of my trips will enable me to take photos for the first time ever. I hope. A past student of mine who is a tour guide here is driving, along with his brother, because he gets asked geological questions a lot by the tourists and hasn't a clue. So in return for free accommodation and transport I have to teach a little basic Moroccan geology. I think I'll have to pay for the booze and fossils though. But I'm hoping to find more than I buy! So many, I hope, that I'll fill the 4x4 with them and wifey and the brother will have to walk home. Wish me luck, full trip details to follow when i am able.

I just got this orthoceras fossil from the atlas mountains if Morocco. I was wondering if they was a formation associated with it? I've got the age, but not the formation, if any. Thanks, Tyler

Hello, I received this fossil as a gift over ten years ago. It came in a box with a small piece of paper that labeled it as a Psychogype Elegens from the Atlas Mountians in Morocco. (I'm also not sure if there was a typo on the card and it's supposed to say elegans) I was packing up my collection of trilobites and decided that I take an inventory. I was poking around on the internet and found someone who was asking if they had purchased a fake one, which I thought looked similar to mine and made me curious about its authenticity. However, it could be that I'm unfamiliar with fossils and unable to tell because I have no clue what I'm looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm also new to the website and unsure how to add more pictures, so I'll try to figure out how to add more photos if this one isn't clear enough. (╥﹏╥)

Postponing one planned purchase prompts searching for another, funny how that works Well, this is one I've started obsessing about somewhat, a lower Mosasaur jaw in matrix. I've read through a lot of threads on the subject on here and figured a few things; most importantly, it's not one of the common tourist souvenir Moroccan fake jaws with inserted teeth. It is from a Mosasaur (at least according to the seller and how it appears to my newbie eyes) but others here will surely have a more accurate label. Now, the seller readily declares there's been some repair and/or restoration--- mainly to the roots of the teeth. I am not sure if he suggests repaired roots or ones built "from the ground up" but I've asked for more info and detailed photos of these areas and expect to have them soon. It's a relatively big piece, the jaw itself appears to be around 30" long, and the seller labels it as having been found in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. What do you think? Collectible or do you see too many repairs and/or restorations for it to be worthwhile?
