Is this Basilosaurus Jaw real?
CFerraioli posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Considering purchasing this item, and the seller had mentioned there were some reconstructions that would naturally have to be done, the question is how likely is it authentic? I find myself not very trustworthy of fossils from Morocco.- 6 replies

Possible Basilosaurid Incisor Tooth From South Carolina River
FossilRobert posted a topic in Fossil ID
I got this tooth from a megalodon tooth collector from South Carolina. They said they collected it from Cooper River alongside megalodon teeth, but weren't certain as to what it came from. To me it looks like an incisor tooth from a basilosaurid, but I haven't seen anything quite like this from South Carolina. It is just over 2-3/5" long and has carinae without serrations (denticles). I could see crocodilian as a possibility as well, but wanted to get some insight from others.- 4 replies

From the album: Marine reptiles and mammals
Almost the entire frontal canine portion of the lower jaw of a Basilosaur. As you can see, the area where the absent front canines were, at the tip of the piece is visible, as well as where the missing last canines were situated. Although it was labeled as a Basilosaurus, I’m a little hesitant to consider that the case until I can personally corroborate the information. Apparently from Boujdour, I’m just having trouble finding information about which whales are, or are not found there, so until then I’ll leave it more open with just Basilosaur.-

Hi everyone, Im looking at a bunch of stuff that someone got from the big fossil expo this month, but I want to be sure of what is what before I do anything. There's a few things way beyond what I could potentially get, but I'm just curious about in general. These are all Moroccan, and most, if not all, are Kem Kem. are these first 4 pics spinosaur? With the teeth I know the 2 on the top&left are probably carchar teeth, but I'm wondering about the other 2. In the 2nd picture, I'm guessing the right one is a spinosaur vert, right? What about the other one? I'm sure it would probably be very hard to tell with just a single rib, but could the rib be spinosaurus? It seems to match some museum spino skeleton ribs, but that's the best I can figure out:/

Does anyone know how large basilosaurus canines can get? I don't know if they're all technically canine teeth, but I'm referring to the 4 to 5 single-point front teeth. Crown & root together.

Hi all. I am currently looking for a genuine Basilosaurus tooth. Problem is, the market is too heavily saturated with other Archaeocetes like Dorudon or Zygorhiza. As far as I understand, if a tooth comes from Western Sahara of Morocco, and is over 10cm in length including root, there's a chance it could be cf. Basilosaurus isis. Here I have several candidates. Tooth A - 6 inches in length Tooth B - 5.5 inches in length Tooth C and D - 6 inches along the curve Is there any way I can positively ID out a Basilosaurus tooth? Do any of these 4 teeth look like one?

I've recently bought a nice Basilosaurus (isis?) premolar which will arrive in a few days. I never see teeth like these in many places, and I'm just curious about what you guys have in your collection.

Hi, I am currently working on an artwork that will involve the skull of Dorudon (I have not decided on a particular species). I have spent many hours scouring the internet for images (including looking through the articles linked to in "Fruitbat's Pdf Library" on this forum). I've found lots of photos of Dorudon skulls, but almost all of them are taken from very similar angles. I am finding frustratingly few images of the posterior face of the skull, and am wondering if someone here can help me, or at least point me in the right direction. For my purposes an image of a Basilosaur might be sufficient. I'm also having trouble finding an image which clearly shows the suture lines on the dorsal surface of the skull. Thanks in advance for your help!
