Hello guys , I found some bones in big brook (Cretaceous fossiles), nj and I don't know if they are modern or ice age. I also added another strange fossil I found but can't id

Just found this earlier today. Thought it was an enchodus until I noticed the conic root. I assume it's some type of aquatic reptile given the location and the similarity to mosasaur teeth I've found, but much more narrow than any mosasaur teeth I've found.

I found both of these a couple days ago on my last trip to Big Brook in the same pan, and both have a very similar texture and appearance that leads me to believe they could have belonged to the same animal. I shared both via PM with @Trevor, who suggested the vertebra was likely Mosasaur (but that it might have a diagnostic ID), and that the bone was some type of marine reptile. Just thought I'd re-post here in case others might have any thoughts to add to that. Also, if either is worth taking in for a more diagnostic identification, where/to whom should I take them? I have heard there is a museum that most people take their big brook finds to, but I have never been there and forget which museum it is. @frankh8147

Found several years ago in Big Brook, NJ. Any help IDing would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance. Hope it isn't considered rude to call people into a post this way, but going to call on @Trevor for his opinion.

I've found small pieces of delicate jaw bone with teeth at big brook in the past, which I believe to be enchodus. This one looked like a much more heavy duty version of the same, so I was wondering if it might just be a larger specimen of the same species. I've photographed it next to one of the smaller fragments of jaw just for comparison. Thanks! @Trevor

Hello! Would love to know about this bone (or we think it's bone) fragment found in Big Brook, NJ. Someone had suggested it was mammal and possible from a deer? Of course I would love to know if it's modern or an actual fossil. And would hope to at least identify the animal it came from. Description (if not clear in photos): It's about an inch long and has a very distinct point. It's relatively smooth with a texture on the underside of the point. An help identifying for a very curious family would be greatly appreciated!

Wasn't sure if this was petrified wood, or just anthracite coal from another location that had gotten lost in the brook. Seems to have bark on one side, but wasn't sure what to make of it.

I read recently that some reworked devonian corals can be found mixed in with the fossils at big brook, and I wanted to post this old find to get people's opinion. Kind of looks like a lot of devonian corals I've found, but I had just assumed it was cretaceous because of the location.

Finally got out to Big Brook today. If I had 1$ for every belemnite found I’d be a wealthy man. Found some teeth along with Gastropod and mollusk impressions. One item that is toothy but not sharks tooth will need help identifying

Hello All, I had forgotten I had picked this up a Big Brook the other day. Definitely looks toothy. Nice size to it as it measures 1.5" (38mm). Not a sharks tooth. Perhaps Sawfish rostral tooth? Thanks!

Was down at Big Brook NJ today. Found a lot of the usual suspects. One though eludes my identification. Has enamel on it and is banded. Little bit larger than diameter of nickel.

Found this yesterday at Big Brook in New Jersey. Trying to figure out if it's just a rock with an interesting texture or a fossil. About 1×0.5×0.5 cm

Hey all, Was looking through some older finds today (from Big Brook NJand was curious on if anyone could shed some light on these. The one tooth I originally thought to be of enchodus, but upon looking closer I am not 100% sold. I could see it being an enchodus worn down or something new entirely. In regards to the second, my thoughts originally were potentially bone fragment from potentially sea turtle? Any input helps!

Mammal tooth found in Big Brook, NJ (rodent molar?) Is it a fossil or modern?
TRexEliot posted a topic in Fossil ID
Just found what appears to be some kind of rodent molar in big brook, New Jersey. I know that there are both pleistocene and modern mammal fossils at this site, is there any way to tell if this is a fossil or a modern animal? -
I recently found this really cool double Agerostera mesenterica at Big Brook in New Jersey (Late Cretaceous; Navesink Formation). After I finished cleaning the fossil, I noticed these tiny encrusters on the larger of the two oysters. They don't look like your typical Serpula tube worm trace. I am not quite sure what they are. They almost have the shape of being some other type of bivalve. Any help is greatly appreciated. Some close-up photos using my digital microscope

So guys basically my neighbor’s friend has big brook running through their backyard, and they found this recently. They are pretty young, and at first they told me they found a dinosaur jaw or bone or something. So I was real skeptical and expecting it to be a deer jaw. But they sent me a picture, and though not a dinosaur jaw, it’s not quite a deer jaw! It seems pretty big, has a few molars still intact, and has the shape of a bison jaw but I’m not sure. Please help me identify it! This is a picture of it in my neighbor’s friend’s hand so I don’t know the exact size but I will ask.

Hi Everyone, New to the forum here but thought you guys might be able to help me ID some finds from today. Was out today for a few hours with my daughter and we found 2 items that I think might be Dino material but maybe not. I was thinking maybe a hadrosaurus tooth and a long shot on a worn dryptosaurus claw. The claw is interesting because it is definitely not coprolite as it’s rock and not sandy.

Hi everyone, I was at the Big Brook Preserve lately, and in amongst the usual batch of oysters, shark teeth, belemnites, and an ammonite fragment I found one piece which I can't quite identify. I initially thought it was a piece of Enchodus jaw, but when I got it into better light I wasn't so sure. It seems to have definite bone texture to it and I am almost certain it's fossilized, but it doesn't quite match with anything I can think of. (Sorry if the pictures aren't great, I tried the best I could with my desk lamp.) Thanks!

Hi again, hoping this time I have something. From Big Brook, NJ. I cannot find anything like it on extensive research. It's not modern bone. Sorry for the US quarter as I have temp misplaced my tape measure. The black smooth area on the top in the first pic is concave but not uniformly so. In one of the photos I put a pebble in there to try to show some depth it its not noticeable. Thanks again for any help!

Hi, found this at Big Brook NJ and trying to determine if it's possible a Mosasaur or Croc tooth or stone/other. It's about 1-1/4 to 1-1/2" long. Thanks for any info!

ound this vertebra yesterday at Big Brook. Concave on both sides, but one side is smaller than the other, giving it the shape of a truncated cone. If you need other views or macros, please let me know. IMG_1867.MOV IMG_1867.MOV
