Is it possible that this is a piece of fossil bone from a joint?
vjlandry posted a topic in Fossil ID
I have had this for a few years, and can't remember where it came from or when it arrived. It has been left out on our porch for most of the last decade, mixed in with a few other interesting rocks we've found. Never really paid much attention to it until recently when I realized it may be a piece of fossilized bone from a joint. There appears to be some evidence of cartilage attached at the top, and it does look like bone structure on the opposite end. I'll invite you to have a look yourself. -
I found this bone in a creek bed in middle Tennessee very shortly after a large flood exposed new sediment. I know that that are of Tennessee was once a seafloor so it is likely marine. Any help is appreciated.

So far the dimensions of what's showing is 15.2mmx6mmx1.5mm & it's starting to curve back into the rock. With no sign of the end yet. I'm taking my time & investigating the piece after every couple scrapes. Whatever it is, it's not as hard as the surrounding material. I'm going to wait till I get a response before I do anymore. Just in case any of you think I should turn it over to a professional so I don't screw up whatever it is.

Hello everyone, I saw this fossil, and please I would like to know if it is indeed a partial coracoid of Diplodocus. The provenance data are as follows: Morrison Formation Big Horn Basin Wyoming. Thank you very much in advance.

I found a fossil fragment on site the other day unlike anything I have ever come across before. Some ideas that have been suggested by colleagues include a bone fragment, petrified wood, or a bryozoan colony. The fragment is approximately 2.5 cm long and half a cm wide, is Pliocene in age, and comes from the Kaawa Formation for anyone who knows their New Zealand stratigraphy well. Im not looking for an ID as such, more just a general indication of what I'm dealing with from anyone else who has come across something similar. Many thanks!

Hello! I found this piece in Portsmouth RI this weekend on a shale beach (picture attached). I'm just not sure what the shale is attached to--- it *looks* like a piece of bone, but I've been doing some image searches and cant find anything really similar. Sorry for my hand in one- I couldn't get a clear shot of the edge otherwise. Thanks so much in advance - I appreciate any insights into what this might be! Emily

Need help identifying whether or not this is a Fossil or not.

Found this on my property in southeastern ohio on 8/15/2021. Was hoping someone could tell me rather or not it's a Fossil or just a very heavy rock. -
Hi, While out fossil hunting with my girlfriend in the Navesink Formation at Big Brook in Colts Neck, NJ, she found this small bone fragment while sifting. It measures about 2 7/8 inches (approx 73 mm) and weights 8.1 grams (but still may contain packed dirt on the inside). It is slightly thicker than a half inch in thickness while laying down. I have no idea what the bone belonged to, and I highly doubt anyone will be able to have much of a certain identification for this, but I promised I'd take a look and see what the Fossil Forum thinks. I can give more measurements and images if needed. Thanks, Aiden

Woah. Is all I have to say to this trip. Finding one of these was going to be a trip maker, but I found 4 complete megalodons. I’m really stoked. Also found some nice hemis, sand tigers, dolphin vertebra, bone, and etc. 3 of the megs were posterior but the fourth was a nice little cream Meg. Just a shame that I couldn’t get 5 today (just kidding). Here’s the haul. Bone frags and verts: small shark teeth: broken shark teeth: Meg and friends: The bay was just perfect. Had the whole beach pretty much to myself the whole day. Going after a storm apparently is the best. Thanks for reading!
