Found this rock on our place in southwest Colorado. It’s very different from most rocks here. With a little research I found we are located in the middle of the Morrison Formation! I’m interested to see if anyone could help identify it. Fossil or cool rock? Thanks for your input.

I had a chance to visit Penn-Dixie today and one of my first finds stumped me. It has the signature porous inside of a bone. It’s black. It has radiating lines down one side. Folks running the place thought it was likely a piece a placoderm armor, making it a rare find. Apologies for the pictures. Once again I find myself in a hotel with my phone. Thickness is a bit over a quarter inch. Length is around 1.75”. Couldn’t make the phone focus well on the marrow. Does placoderm armor have marrow?

I obtained a bone fossil collected from the Arkansas River in Eastern Oklahoma but not sure what it belongs to. I am including several photos from various angles. The dimensions are as follows in centimeters(cm): 16.5 cm x 9 cm (about 0.64 cm in thickness but it varies slightly). The darker brown sections appear to be the outside of the fossil while some parts are interior(?); not sure about the black portions. Any help on what it might belong to and perhaps what part of the structure would be awesome!

Hoping to get some good input on these. I found several of these rib bones together in densely packed sand/Ash material. I’ve never seen this type of consistency in any other type of fossil. It’s almost like they turned into Sandstone material. Any idea what causes this or what type of animal they are from?

Not a fossil, but wondering if anyone has any ideas about what animal it's from... It's big and old. Found in pinestraw purchased in northeast Georgia.

Hey guys, new member here. So around eight to nine years ago, I was walking the sand bars of the Mississippi River alongside Randolph Co., Illinois and I happened to find this fossil bone. I was wondering if we could figure out what it belonged to and how old it is. I think it’s a piece of rib? Thanks guys.

Hi everyone, I came across this object earlier this evening and I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what it is. It was found embedded in a soft rock (soft enough to scrape away large chunks with a pocket knife) with just a small cross-section exposed. It first grabbed my attention because it appears round and hollow in cross-section, and was a different color and harder than the surrounding material. The rock it was found in was at the top of a hill, and located in western North Dakota, just barely across the border from Montana. My friend and I tried to brainstorm what it could be, but everything we could think of didn't quite seem to fit. If anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it! Also willing to accept that it might just be a weird rock... Thanks! (More photos to come in the comments)

Hi, I am new to the forum and was wondering if someone could help me identify this bone I found and if it is, in fact, a fossil. I found this in South Bend Indiana in an area where drainage water runs through to a pond. I usually hunt this area for "fossilized coral", but today I found this bone literally just lying on the ground. I have found bones in this area before, but this one is different. It is rock hard and heavy. I was thinking at first it might be waterlogged but the bone isn't brittle at all and looking at the top of the bone, it appears to be rock (as evidenced by the picture). The bone is 9 1/2 inches (24 cm), very smooth, and non-porous except for the first 2 inches (5cm) of the bone which feels rougher but doesn't appear to be porous. I hope I have given enough information and the picts are acceptable. If not, I will give more info and take more picts as needed. Thank you.

I found this piece of limestone that seems to be too much of a coincidence for it to fit in my hand just right. It almost reminds me of the manubrium of the sternum but then I thought it could maybe be an ancient carved tool. It could also be just a rock :-). Any help would be appreciated.

G'day everyone! I reccently returned from a fossil trip to Portland, VIC searching for pliocene shark teeth and bones. Dad and I came back with some nice stuff but I also found this bone that has had me stumpted. Most bones collected from the site are fragmentary but this one appears to be whole but I have no idea what it is from. The bone is 30mm long, around 5 -6mm wide and very thin (Around 1mm probably a bit less) The fossil is pliocene in age, fossils found from the site include: Shark, fish and ray teeth, cetacean teeth and bones, terrestial mammal teeth and bones and rare avian material. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Dan

This piece was found at the Del Mar Formation in San Diego. It looks like there might be a bone in the middle (see close up). I’m a complete novice at this, so any information is valuable. Do you think it might be bone?

So I found this bone in miocene area where I normally hunt for sharks teeth, this was found in a big gravel bed where I was finding turtle shell pieces, dugong bones, a few sharks teeth here and there, part of a big vert that ill post later, as well as many bone parts that I can't identify. However this bone is the most interesting thing I have pulled from this spot. At first I thought it was dugong because that's most of what I find. But then I noticed it was hollow in the shaft of the bone making me question what it could be because as far as I know the only things with hollow bones are birds. Any and all help would be amazing because I am lost. Ps: I'm sorry the colors are so blown out. I raised the exposure on the images because the fossil is so dark it was hard to see details in the pictures.

Didn't pay much attention when I picked this up, just noticed it was interesting. It was a surface find and I guessed I would figure it out later. Any ideas? Found this somewhere south of Wamsutter, WY.

Found in Bremerton, Washington . grappled by a rotted tree and its roots., near the surface. Its big and heavy. Not sure first thought Willy mammoth but was told maybe dinasour nasal cavity.

Hi TFF friends, how are you? I would like to have your opinion concerning the following fossil. It's a bone I found a while ago in the Himenoura formation, Santonian (Kumamoto Japan) and I forgot until I decided to clean my drawers. It has a quite distinctive shape and make me think to a sea turtle bone, a paddle or an ulna maybe. What kind of bone do you think it is? Any ID? I am not looking for the ID, I just would like to know what kind of bone it is.

Found on beach in Salvador Bay, Brazil. This is the best quality I could get with my phone. Photo with black background shows the curved part of bone well, note how smooth that part is. Color of bone in that photo is most accurate. Can anyone tell me what it is?
