Found this interesting little bone in among some scrap Kem Kem bones. At first the shape struck me as suggesting a digit of some sort, just wondered whether any further ID might be possible? (Or maybe its not a digit at all?)

Hi all! New to the forum! I wanted to see if anyone can help me figure out what this is. I visited a person who was very helpful, and suggested it was possibly a whale bone, possibly Miocene era. But his area of expertise is more focused on the Pleistocene era. The bone has quite a bit of casing on it, but overall it is extremely dense. The marrow was not preserved, but it has some nice sediment layers built up, I like that some of them have turned quartz-ish. Found it in Willamette valley OR. Let me know what you think! thanks!

Hi guys! I recently found this bone in an Island in the Savannah River, really close to Savannah. There where a lot of pottery shards near by with punctuations and patterns so I'm assuming it's some kind of artifact. It measures 7.10" inches the holes are .0011 inches Note the "cut-like" incisions on the broken part and also the two holes (they connect to the inner part of the bone, so if you pour water on one end it will come out of the holes) at first I though they where foramen (where arteries go into the bones) but they look like drilled and most foramen go diagonally into the bone. See for your self! Any comments are welcome! Thanks!

Hi all, I recently found this on a trip to the Jurassic Coast at Dorset and have been intrigued by this find, i'm not an expert on fossil identification and was wondering if there was anything significant about this fossil. it strikes me as being either fossilised wood or an infilled burrow of some kind, however the shine, shape and downward strikes are leaving me somewhat puzzled. i would be grateful for all your potential ideas as to what this could be.

I accidentally broke part of this fossil when I dropped the rock it was in. It measures about 8 inches with a 2 inch diameter. No clue what it might have belonged to. This was also found on the Dry Frio River.

Greetings! I recently found this piece of fossil bone around the Big Brook area of Monmouth County, New Jersey. I believe it to be Cretaceous. A lot of bone in this area is scrappy and tough to identify but I'm hoping either the structure or features might be able to identify what this is from (or anything else about it). Thanks again! -Frank

Why Do a lot of Jurassic Bone Frags Seem Indeterminate?
Kurufossils posted a topic in Questions & Answers
Since getting into fossils something has been bugging me alot about material from the Jurassic and especially material from such places as colorado, utah, etc. Alot of bone material I see online for sale, mostly fragments in various sizes are usually unlabeled and generalized as being from any dinosaur from the Jurrasic. I wonder if there is at least a way to differentiate at least herbivore bone from theropod bone (like allosaurus from camarsaurus)? Is it similar to the method used for cretaceous bone of the honey comb pattern or not? I'm curious why it seems harder to identify Jurassic bone piece, I'd appreciate any input or discussion, thank you. For example would the first two pictures be considered theropod and the last herbivore? -
My boyfriend just got back from hiking and came back with a backpack filled with rocks!? He thinks they are fossils. Can anyone help identify? Thank you!!!

I found this piece a long time ago in a cretaceous site in New Jersey and haven't really been able to figure out what this is since. I'm not sure if its fish, marine reptile, dinosaur, or etc. Just noticed it browsing through my collection and figured this would be the best place to get help, any help appreciated to get a label on this, thank you.

My daughter found this back in June in the hell creek formation in Montana. I'm not sure what kind of bone or dinosaur it would have come from so she asked me to post it on here for the experts to advise. My best guess was part of a vertebrae but I'm not sure. Thanks in advance.

I found this in a creek in Claiborne County, MS. It is bone and it is petrified. The smooth, straight sides are what is perplexing and even more so the "spiral on the one side. You can see the "spiral" in the photographs. This may be something comman and not man made. Can anyone help me with identifying this? Is it Native American? Photo of the "back"

I purchased this bone fragment at a fossil show. It's from the Morrison formation of Utah. I suspect it's theropod, most likely Allosaurus because of its hollow nature but I just wanted to get other opinions on it. Thanks everyone!

Hello - I'm hoping someone might have an idea what this is. We found it in the surf off the coast of North Carolina. Looks to me like it might be the socket of a ball and socket joint but other than that, I have no idea. It's hollow throughout. Any thoughts on what it might be?

Hi master prep guys This has been a real challenge for me and I'm struggling. Any wisdom much appreciated. Potentially I've got a lovely ichthyosaur paddle here but it's driving me crazy. The matrix is so flaky I've had to put a stack of thin Paraloid on to stop the matrix disintegrating. I'm wondering if adding the Paraloid has stuck the matrix to the bone. The matrix is softer than the bone but is dangerously flakey without the Paraloid. I have a pen, pin vice and a hammer. The last tool is rapidly becoming an option! Should I selectively remove Paraloid-ed matrix? Other thoughts?

I was just on a trip with some friends near Ochoco National Forest in Oregon and stumbled upon this. I weighed myself with and without this thing in my hand with a digital scale accurate to .1 lbs several times and it comes in at .7 lbs. Thoughts? Thanks, y'all. Dillon

Hi - thank you to all that have helped me to acquire so much information on my fossils/concretions. How would I go about hiring a professional to prep some of my larger bone fossils? I assume it would be very expensive and would like to know if it's worth the time and money. I posted several photos in the ID section under the title "Bone or Concretion" and "is this a sea lion". If needed I can resend to this post. Thank you for your continued help and knowledge... very much appreciated!
