I have come into some cash, and am unsure whether to use it to buy something impressive that I have always wanted---a few I have my eye on is a triceratops horn, a partial raptor skeleton from china, a dinosaur foot and claw, a suchomimus claw, etc. Or, use it to instead buy a bunch of fossils which are cheaper, but missing from my collection---Allosaurus tooth, diplodocus tooth etc. What would others do in the same boat--is the priority for others getting that one more expensive, but hugely impressive piece, or getting lots of more common but still cool ones. I would like an Allo tooth, Albertosaurus tooth, diplodocus tooth for my collection, but I have also wanted that bigger, more expensive and more prestigious fossil like a skeleton or a horn. Would love to hear some thoughts.

100's of fossils - I don't know where to start
DavidPepper posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
Hi everyone, My uncle passed away near the start of the year sadly. He was an avid collector of fossils and he has left 100's behind. I have photographed them all in their draws but there is that many I cannot even begin to take individually photos. What is the best way to offload these without being taken advantage of, due to my lack of knowledge? I am based in Stoke-on-Trent in the United Kingdom. -
What is the best place to buy fossils that is cheap, but still quality? I have little money and cant buy expensive things as my mom doesn't understand the passion I have for fossils (I'm 13). It's not easy growing your collection when the only place near you only has really worn up sharks teeth and you only go thrice a year. Thanks

Hello, I am considering buying a really nice fossil, unfortunately there are no "interesting" shops nearby, so I'll have to look online. Do you have any recommendations?

Hi I'm looking for my first tooth for my "bird ancestor" collection. I'm interesting about this one from one dakotaraptor steini. It's very small: 0.6cm. What do you think about this tooth ?

(did I post in the right section, or should I move this to the general discussion forum to get more help) Hey all, Im a beginner collector, looking at buying a megalodon tooth. Since it's my first purchase, Im only looking to spend $120 max. - I would like to find a complete tooth, that is relatively pretty, 3.5 in or larger, and probably lacking any serrations at my price. Is this possible? -Does anyone have any tips for a beginner? -Does anyone have any teeth in mind? -Ive seen some 4 inch teeth that were beautiful for less than $100, why is this? 1. Here are some of the the sites Ive looked at so far. Megateeth.com sharksteeth.com darkwatermegs.com fossilera.com -Are these places reputable? -Are there any other good sites? 2. -Should I be looking on eBay? -If so who are some good sellers? -Should I "buy it now" or auction? -Ive been looking at a seller called 'thesharktoothlady', has anyone ever heard of her? Anyways, since Im new, Im not quite sure the right questions to ask, and any information would be great. Also in the very near future, Ill be asking about a spino tooth! Thanks all!! Grant

Opinions on these claws, buy worthy? real?
kolleamm posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
I've been really wanting to get back into fossil collecting, so I thought I could start off by buying something to make my collection better. I've always had an interest for theropod material probably since it's so rare. I came across these claws on eBay. It's a bit pricey but before I make any purchase I'd like to know if I should have any worries of them being fake. Is this claw genuine? -
I watched a youtube video on a fossil collection someone had purchased, and someone in the comment section actually said something like "buying fossils is for (expletive). I go out in 110 degrees and work all day to find mine". I thought "wow! do people really think like that?". So is there some unsaid rule that people who dig their own fossils are somehow cooler or tougher than those who buy them? I don't have any accessible fossil sites near me. My collecting career was limited to a few months I spent in southwestern New Mexico. I was then in an accident from which I'm still recovering, which prohibits me from strenuous activity. Just curious. I just bought some fossils online. Scott

I'd very much like to buy some unprepared ammonites and prepare them myself. Does anyone know who I could talk to about this?
-
Greetings, after collecting and buying fossils for a few years and getting out of space at my home for all of them I have realized that it could be a good idea to exchange them for other fossils (I have dozens of ammonites for all around the world, brachiopods and micraster and pecten from spain) so my question is, do you know somewehere on internet to exchange fossils? Is it possible to exchange them here? Thank you very much.

Hello, I am looking for reputable places to buy gem ammolite, specifically gem ammolite with a bluer color. A user had previously suggested to me two stores but I wasn't really seeing anything that caught my eye. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Where to buy real fossils (USA) and top grade replicas?
reptileguy posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
I'm pretty new to fossil collecting, however I'd like to dive right in. I've been looking at the FossilShack, however I was wondering if there are any other reputable dealers within the US? I've heard eBay is a great place, but I don't know which dealers to avoid, does anyone know of any? I'm also interested in buying an authentic looking replica for a friends birthday. I don't want to pay a fortune (college student), but I'm mainly looking complete skulls and claws. Thanks! -
Hello, been away from the site for a while, but definitely not the hobby. Made contact with some interesting folks at skullstore.ca (Toronto, ON, Canada) and the collection and knowledge has been growing since. Check out their website and instagram, very neat stuff. Here's some items from my collection. One photo is me holding my new Green River Knightia Plate. Am I wrong or is there 2 kinds of knightia on there? It's cool because there are several cleaves with other unique fossils clearly poking out from underneath, but i wouldn't risk the plate's integrity on a whim. Any professionals near ottawa want to have a look? Here's a Branchiosaurus (Gill Lizard) 225 million year old (permian) from Pfalz, Germany. A large unknown dinosaur species' leg bone portion; cut and polished at the bottom. Can see the marrow and vein cavities. If only I had time to document them all, but just to tease I also have: fossil manatee jaw (10,000yrs old from florida), ammonites, spinosaurus teeth 3" long, giant megalodon teeth, shark and whale vertebrae, mammoth leg portions, awesome petrified wood from ontario with crystallized resin patches, bison bones half fossilized from the holocene, and much much more. More to come anyways, always enjoy sharing. Please post comment and enjoy, any fossil topic encouraged.
