I have a slightly different hunting trip breakdown today. @Fin Lover alerted me around Christmas to some bits of turtle shell that were exposed in a creek near Charleston, SC. My excitement was killing me as I was out of town for the week, and everything was closed for the holidays so I couldn't start to search for landowner permission to explore a potential excavation if enough of the specimen was there. Thankfully once things reopened I managed to get in touch with the land owners and get approval the night before I returned to Charleston. I went out on the 30th and found there was shell spread over an area about 4'x4'. That day began the tedious and arduous process of removing it. This was my first large scale excavation, and I definitely underestimated just how much work it would involve! It was a total of about 25 hours of hard work for me over a week and help from multiple friends. It arrived safely at the Charleston Museum and I am now working on prepping it during my volunteer time and I/Fin will keep the forum updated as progress continues! Until then, enjoy some pictures of the excavation and of the current preparation progress, including the discovery of part of the skull. December 30th - First day of excavation, the sandbag wall and preliminary trench is done January 4th - 4th day of excavation, the trench is complete January 5th - 5th day of excavation. Undercutting was done, from here it was wrapped and taken out of the creek and gotten into my truck. January 8th - Arrival at the Charleston Museum You can see all the shell that was just sitting on top of the jacket, with tons more just under the surface. I also found the skull, which Fin posted previously.

Hi! I found this fossil on Folly Beach, SC on 7/31. I’m new to searching for fossils other than shark teeth but I’m thinking this is some kind of stingray tooth. Would love to know who this fossil came from! Thanks!!!

Hi! I am a new member of the fossil forum! And I would really appreciate it if anyone could please help me to identify this object. I spend alot of time in the woods and tend to stumble across VERY NEAT (neat to me anyway) stones and rocks. This one I found on top of a huge rock formation that sits on top of the hill that is my "back yard." The opinion of others is highly appreciated and I thank you in advance for any thoughts provided.

Hi all, I found this fossilized toe bone (measures just under 1.5 inches) that washed out of the Charleston Harbor in Charleston, South Carolina. I got one ID on it. His initial thoughts were it was from a carnivore and he narrowed that down to a Canid or a Bear. He looked at it more and determined it to be a Canid and most likely Dire Wolf. I wanted to run it past any of the mammal experts here to get an opinion. As an avid shark tooth hunter, this is outside of anything I know. I will say Ice Age fossils, outside of horse teeth, are way less common for me here in the Lowcountry of South Carolina unlike other places in Florida. Any help would be appreciated. Happy to post additional pictures and thanks in advance!

Found this cool complete little bone while screening some gravel in a Summerville creek. Seems familiar but not enough to hazard a guess. Thanks for looking!

Good evening, after my last fossil dive trip I was going through some of the bones I had put in the bag and realized one was a fish jaw. The layer I was working was Miocene but it is possible it’s as late as Pliocene. I don’t believe it’s a wahoo or barracuda but the teeth look similar. Thanks in advance

Found this very small possible fossil on a beach near Charleston, SC. The island where it was found is a former dredge spoils site with contents from the bottom of Charleston Harbor. Would love some help to ID this curious little thing. Thank you!

Hi all, I found this hollow Great White tooth this morning when out on a hunt in Charleston, SC. Is this an example of a tooth that was in the back of the jaw and was not fully developed? Or is there a way to even tell that? I have found several Great White’s with missing roots and this one feels different - it is much lighter and feels more fragile. Any information is appreciated and happy to post more pics if needed. Thanks!

Hey All, I found this today while looking for sharks teeth in Charleston, SC. I am guessing this is a knobbed whelk, is that correct? How do I know if it is fossilized or not? Also, for anyone who knows the area, are these rare in the greater Charleston Area? I know for all the hours I have spent looking for teeth at this particular spot I have never seen one fully intact. Thanks in advance!

Hey All, I found this tooth on an early afternoon hunt today in Charleston, SC. I wanted to see if anyone could confirm if it is a Carcharocles angustiden or if it could possibly be a Carcharocles chubutensis. Reason I ask is the cusps on the side seem less pronounced then other Angy’s I have found and seen. They don’t appear to have broken off. My initial thought is that it is an Angy, but wanted to doubles check. Happy to post additional pics if needed. Thanks in advance!

I went on a quick hunt this morning. Couldn’t find much at all, only one small tooth, and then stumbled upon this Great White tooth. I have found a lot of teeth in the Charleston, SC area but this is the best Great White I have found to date. I was pretty pumped!

Hey all, I was hunting for sharks teeth this morning and found this. Is it a fossil or just a rock? My initial inclination is just a rock, but figured the shape was worth an ask. Thanks in advance!

Hey all, I found this tooth this morning hunting in Charleston, SC. I was hoping someone could help me ID it. Is it Isurus desori? Or is it Isurus hastalis? That was my initial thought, but it is so much bigger, thicker, and robust than the other Isurus desori teeth I have found in Charleston, SC and most Isurus hastalis teeth I have found are more broad/wide. So figured I would run it past some folks here to make sure the ID is correct. Thanks I’m advance!!! @MarcoSr @WhodamanHD @BellamyBlake @Al Dente @Praefectus
