Curious if this could be a petrified / fossilized acorn or chestnut, etc. ?

Onslow Beach find in NC, appears to be a chestnut or acorn, now petrified. I've come hand sized petrified wood pieces several times on the same beach over past decades. Appreciate any help with potential ID on it. Thank you- R/s Scott IMG_4233.heic IMG_4235.heic IMG_4231.heic IMG_4237.heic -

The ancestors of these trees are almost never found south of the equator, until now. https://m.phys.org/news/2019-06-argentine-fossils-oak-beech-family.html -
Please help me identify this fossil. We are thinking it may be some kind of a nut. I found this about 5 years ago along Lake Michigan. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
