I’ve made a lot of progress. I have one large main section and a smaller section that I still haven’t gotten connected up. The red circles are the manus (front) tracks that Dr Klein wanted me to be sure I got. I’m still digging out more tracks but the rocks have gotten smaller and more irregular. The individual pictures are what I’ve found in the last couple days. Dr Lucas is coming in September to take what he needs for his research

I’ve made a lot of progress on the reassembly. One more large satellite piece to join to the main body. Pictures don’t show the tracks very well but give you an idea of the scale. About 17’ long. Hope to get back to digging (and efficiently marking the slabs this time) in the next few days.

Found this today. It will eventually hook into the new trackway. By far the biggest I’ve found. Dr Lucas was very excited, which for a paleontologist is remarkable lol. Attached an update on my reassembly.

Dr Lucas and Dr Klein have been looking at my track photos. Looks like I have summer plans lol. The reassembling is coming along pretty good. I was smart and marked my pieces. Unfortunately the markings washed off. I used both paint pens and construction crayons but apparently there was still too much dirt despite my efforts to brush it off first. Next up, a metal scribe. I’m learning.

Found a new set of tracks recently. Still excavating and reassembling. Tracks are very deep so must be soft mud. Not super distinct. Much larger than the usual tracks.

Had a four day visit from Spencer Lucas and Hendrik Klein to study my track finds. Lots of photography, made tracings of the tracks. They took a few truckloads of slabs for the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science and will be coming back to collect the large trackway. It was a fascinating week.

IMG_2038.MOV Here’s a video of my collection as of May. I numbered them a while back and got to 185. That doesn’t include the trackway pieces or what I’ve added since then. It’s been almost exactly two years since I found the first track. Not bad for a sixty year old guy working alone lol.

Been digging my new area. Finding large area with what seems to be deep mud. Lots of partial, poorly impressed tracks so far. From the exploratory holes I’ve dug the area seems to cover at least an acre so hoping to find some good things.

Started hitting another good load of rocks. Found the one huge chirotherium. Some interesting tracks I can’t identify too.

I’ve got 186 pieces that all pretty much fit together. I numbered them and took photos to send to a paleontologist who is going to try to photoshop them together. I got the first two together.

The trackway is about 18’x12’. It’s looking good. Still have a few more pieces to go. And a couple really big ones to drag into place.

Found this large expanse of rock today. The few chunks I pulled out all have tracks. Need to start exploring to see where the edges are.

My new neighbor (mile away but still the closest) rented an end loader and volunteered to move two of my biggest rocks! Both safe in my collection. And even better, went up the side of the wash about eight feet and found tracks. Could be the edge of the undisturbed fossil layer.

8’ long, 32” wide. Excellent sets of tracks. Need a backhoe to move this one. Late in the day so pics are a bit shaded, sorry.

Found this yesterday. It was a bit out of the water flow so it hasn’t been eroded much. Nice distinct prints.

Nicely defined toes with claws. I guess you could call them sandy claws. Catch me at your local comedy club! Second picture is taken under a rock I’ve tunneled underneath but I have no idea what the print is from. It’s about 2”.

Been mostly clearing out sand but did find a nice rock yesterday. Don’t know what the splayed toe print is.

Found a nice set of front and rear, left and right chirotherium prints. Couple pictures of what the site looks like - I move one and hit two more. Currently have over 100 rocks with footprints.

The footprint in the lower right is chirotherium. The straight line looks to be a tail drag. The squiggly lines are mud cracks I assume.
