Ok All might be over thinking not saying this is but again has bone like appearance going a few steps ahead looks to be a tooth like projection in this that looks like it would match holes in it ,with out beating around the bush what's the odds on possible petrified bone with a broken tooth imbedded in it? In the area 1000000000 to one? But always say better to be lucky then good. It is in a Canadian University being Identified along with some others they found interesting will post what they have found. What do ya think? A B C

Recently Mrs. beachbum and myself met up with Sir Tommy the Toad in Gainesville for a quick hunt. We met at a spot where Sir Tommy showed us a creek that produces some nice fossils. That's a neat little spot I look forward to hunting with Sir Tommy. From there we went to a favorite creek of mine. It's a hit or miss spot, but after the recent rains you can't say no. The three of us work the creek for a while before Sir Tommy had to leave. We stayed a bit more along with a guest before the rains returned. We didn't do to bad for the amount of time there and now we're looking forward to heading back.

The stratigraphic information for this locality is questionable and so is specified vaguely. The environment is marine shell hash that may span late Miocene-Pleistocene. Dr. Richard C. Hulbert, Jr. from FLMNH had this to say about the locality: There are two “formations” found near the surface in that area of the state. One is the middle to late Miocene Peace River Formation. The other “formation” possible is has been informally called the Okeechobee Formation by Tom Scott, and consists of the sandy shell beds formerly called the Caloosahatchee, Bermont, and Fort Thompson formations. On the geologic map of Florida published by the state’s geological survey it is not designated a formal name and is instead listed as Pliocene/Pleistocene shelly unit. Even if found in situ within the Plio/Pleistocene unit, such specimens could be reworked out of the Peace River Formation. If you are finding them in modern creek alluvium, it will be difficult to be sure which is their original depositional unit.

We finally made it. Mrs.beachbum and myself finally made our first fossil hunting trip of the year. We just moved to central Florida and decided to stay close by for our first trip out. So we headed out to one of the smaller creeks in Gainesville for a few hours on Monday. It was slow going at first and after moving around for a while we hit a pretty good spot. Even though we had a couple of "oh nuts" with the megs, they are still the largest that we've found in Gainesville. The posterior meg is a pretty sharp looking dark blue, along with the cool colors of the other teeth. I believe that's a horse tooth in upper part of the picture that was found just before the megs started appearing. All in all it was a fun morning in the creek and we're looking to spend more time there. Also, can anyone tell me what's in the 2nd pic? Thanks.

Hello. I'm new to the forum. I found this in a New Jersey creek recently. Does anyone have an idea of what it could be?

I am pretty sure this is fossilized coral, but does anyone know what type? It was found in Jefferson County, MO. The closest creek I found a name to is Head's Creek.

Hi all Been wondering why when I ask for a possible ID a lot of people say it doesn't look like it is from Mazon creek ,I think I know why , Going to post 2 pitchers one in normal the other I coverd with just egg white you can see big difference, don't know what egg white dose besides brings out more detail and make calcite turn clear only down side is it lasts on certain Fossils for a couple of days then have to wash off and do again on some.

Ok all Who knows what to cover your Mazon creek fossils with to bring out that beautiful shine and detail? My grandfather told me this 40 years ago. It doesn't hurt Fossil and will act like glue to hold intact and will wash right off?
