So after following nizaar ibrahim's study in 2014 I learned that spinosaurus walked on four legs and it spend a lot of time in water being a good swimmer. But recently I saw that some new studies have been published and then some others and I have lost track so if someone could please inform me about the latest discoveries and tell me if spinosaurus was a good swimmer and if he walked on four it would be much appreciated.

Was down poking around the Blanco River in Central Texas today and came a cross a nice little coral specimen. I've found a number of these at the same location, and the best I can figure from the Field Guide is Astrocoenia guadalupae. Is this correct? I have also found these in Shoal Creek in Austin which I think are Montastrea roemeriana. Or are they the same coral as the above ones? And lastly, this might just be a big round rock (with little concretion on the end) which I would say could be a gastrolith, but the concretion nodule makes me think no....but it is strangely round, and large. Any possibility of it being something interesting or just an interesting rock? Thanks!!

I would like some help to identify this fish. The position and preservation make it a little bit hard to identify. It was found in Vallecillo, Northeastern Mexico. The full length is 128 cms. Teeth length is approximately 2 cms. I'll post several photos in comments.

Hi I’ve recently acquired this dinosaur vert. I’ve started prepping it but it’s a right pain. The bone is a similar colour to the matrix, the matrix smears and the bone is soft. I’ve been using s combination of pens and dolomite but it’s really tough to work out where the matrix ends and the bone begins. Any help is welcome. I think it’s an iguanodon dorsal but may be from an ankylosaur. Time will tell.

I need some tips & advice on tools for first fossil hunt in Eben Emael (Maastrichtian of Belgium)
ziggycardon posted a topic in Collecting Gear
Hi everyone! After the recommendations of @Manticocerasman, @gigantoraptor & @Joeri_R I joined the BVP (Belgian Association for Paleontology). Today I got my confirmation mail of the membership. I have long been wanting to go out on fossil hunts especially in my own region which consist of cretaceous limestone from the Maastrichtian. Luckily for me the next fossil excursion planned by the BVP is a trip to the Romontbos quarry in Eben-Emael which is only a 20 - 25 minute drive for me. So I did sign up for said excursion but since it's my first ever fossil hunt I want to go prepared and I was wondering if any of you have any tips on what tools and stuff to take with me to the quarry and what tools are best for excavating said limestone. I already know that a safety helmet, safety gloves and a fluorescent jacket are required and that safety glasses and steeltipped working shoes are recommended. I was also planning on taking enough water to stay hydrated, a backpack and a good strong bag to transport excavated fossils and perhaps some matrix to examine later. And I was planning on purchasing this kit from my regular fossil shop. Are there any other tools or items that I should bring? Or does anyone have some tips for an inexperienced beginner? Or is anyone is familiar with the location feel free to share. Thank you in advance and I look forward to my first hunt! -

The grey tooth on the right is a small posterior megalodon tooth found in the peace river Florida. The copper tooth was found in a very shallow creek part of big brook NJ. Is it possible that a meg could have swam farther north like modern great whites do during a split time when the water level overlapped the big brook area and dropped it? I’m still new at identifying teeth but they seem VERY very similar

This thing has me stumped. The only thing the shape reminds me of, is a tooth from Camarasaurus, but nothing about the texture screams "this is a tooth" to me. I would have guessed some kind of claw, but it appears to have something akin to a root?? @LordTrilobite, I'm sure I saw that you deal with Kem Kem material quite a bit? Any thoughts?

You'll all be sick of me asking for input on specimens at this rate! I'm pretty unsure about this, since I'm mainly a tooth collector. Does it look like an ankylosaurid scute to anyone?? Locality: Isle of Wight, UK. Wealden Formation. Size: 80mm X 55mm

I know this is not very likely, but why not ask. I have been emboldened by a post from a long time ago from @frankh8147. I am basing the question only on the spherical shape and the fact that it is embedded in hard matrix, along with shark teeth and fish parts. It seems like a lot of them are darker, such as Frank’s possible pearl. Found at bottom of the Eagle Ford, top of the Woodbine, so Cenomanian to Turonian in age. Scale at the top of second pic in mm. If not a pearl, any guesses what it would be? Not a lot of round stuff that I have seen, and still want to know.

A friend found this along the Little Missouri River Just outside Mena Arkansas. I believe the area is early Cretaceous. My first thought was a Septarian Nodule. Is it that or something totally different?

I recently saw this available for sale during one of my latest hunts for new stuff. Seller claims it to be a dromaeosaur claw from Morocco (definitely looks the part for Kem Kem material). I am beyond useless with anything other than teeth, so could someone offer an opinion on what kind of claw this might be? Size: 14mm Thanks, all!

So the odd Kem Kem tooth I bought online arrived today. It does have a bit of a funky shape to it. • Chunky with a recurve. • Oval cross section. • Mesial carina naturally extends only to 1/2 way down the mesial face. • Distal carina reaches cervix. • No wrinkled enamel. • No obvious interdental succuli. Denticle count at midline - Mesial: 13/5mm Distal: 10/5mm Close up of denticle shape (distal midline):
