I did not personally find this, it was from Harry Pristis, from his Peace River collection. But it is in my collection now!-

Hi, I just went on my first fossil hunting trip last weekend, and I am hooked! I’m trying to keep up the hype and go searching again soon. Attached are just a few of my finds. This seems like a great community, and I am so excited to learn more about great locations for finding fossils and identifying them.

Mystery find in Bexhill fossil matrix (Weald Clay, UK), might this be fossilized skin?
ziggycardon posted a topic in Fossil ID
Hi everyone, I need some help identifying something I found yesterday when I went through my newly acquired fossil matrix. Some information on the matrix, it came from the Hastings Bone beds, Weald Clay, Wealden of Bexhill, Wealden Supergroup, Bexhill, Sussex, UK (Cretaceous, Valanginian, 135 million years old) To me when I found it, it looked like skin, not like the crocodile scutes I am familiar with , but really more like skin. But since I am not really an expert on the matter is doesn't really matter what I think it might look like. I do know dinosaur fossils are common there and I do believe skin has been found on that location before (at least footprints with scale impressions) Does anyone have a clue on what it might be? Skin (reptillian, dinosaurian, pterosaur, shark, fish)? Skull plate of a fish? a croc scute? a mouthpart of a fish? Something entirely else? Thank you in advance, and I am very eager to hear what you guys think about it, no matter the outcome, I am very excited to find out what it is.- 5 replies

Was going through a box of material from Holmdel, Monmouth County, New Jersey (Upper Cretaceous) and came across these two pieces that I can't identify. My best guess is that they are both concretions, but I wanted to ask the hive mind before I discard them. In full disclosure, I am offloading all of my Cretaceous material so if either of these is something significant, I will either be selling or donating them. Thanks Dave

This osteoderm was in a box of Bull Canyon Formation (Triassic - Norian) coprolites that I have been going through for the past year. The fun thing is, I one of the coprolites in this batch appears to have osteoderm inclusions that look very similar. I have looked at well over a thousand coprolites from this formation, and this is the first time I have found inclusions such as these. Needless to say, I am super, super excited!!!! Best I can figure it is from an aetosaur or phytosaur, neither of which are familiar to me. I did send an email to the person that found them to see if she is able to identify it, but thought I would throw it out to the forum at the same time. Any assistance you provide would be greatly appreciated. @Carl check it out!

I found it within a cave on Isla Bastimentos, which is an island off the Atlantic coast of Panama. The cave had fast flowing sea water. Thus far it appears to be either fossilized pharyngeal teeth or a dermal plate. I'm trying to figure out if they're actually fossilized and more importantly what species it likely belongs to. Size: Approximate 1.25cm x 1.0cm x 0.5cm
