Fellow members, I have been offered this Dicranurus. At first glance it appears to be well prepped etc. with no signs of obvious fractures etc. As one should be on guard when purchasing Moroccan material, I would like to seek counsel / opinions / another pair of eyes regarding this specimen which I have been offered. Can anyone see any signs of repair and / or restoration? Thankyou in advance, much appreciated. 7382B30E-FC78-42BF-AD84-380811D50D9E.mov

Dicranurus monstrosus Trilobite - real or fake?
AchillesWF posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello experts - I am considering purchasing this Dicranurus monstrosus Trilobite fossil. I have some good images of the specimen, so am wondering if anyone here can help me sort out if it is potentially a fake or not. To me, the way it is attached to the matrix, the look of the end of one of the 'horns' and the way the Trilobite shell is kind of 'muddy' looking is making me wonder... I've been looking for a specimen of this type for a while so I am hoping no one sees any reason to avoid purchasing. Thanks!- 11 replies

I recently picked up this partial Dicranurus elegantus from the Haragan formation, Oklahoma. It was a fun prep! initially it laid flat at a funny angle (don't have a full photo), so I cut a base so it would stand on its own rather than lay flat, and removed a lot of matrix from the new top. I worked it down with my Aro, and used a abrasive unit when I thought I was getting close to the spines. Once I figured out the spine position I started with the Aro again, going slow and following the spines, switching back to the abrasive if I wasn't 100% sure where the spine was. Overall very happy with the results, not bad for a partial bug! Here is the before and after.

I found this Dicranurus online and was wondering whether it is too good to be true. I always wanted a Dicranurus and they are probably my favorite species of Trilobite, but they are always out of my budget and this is the first one that I might be able to afford. Regards, indominus rex
