Esthetic trilobites or good looking fake?

I'm a newbie to the world of fossils and bought this Selenopeltis sp Ordovician from a reputable dealer who provided COA; it looks so good to my untrained eye that I am suspicious of its authenticity. Said to be from Efroud, Morocco. Approx 13 x 11 x 1 inch. Thanks

How could this possibly happen??? How would they eyes be so dark while the rest is barely visible? And not just that, how are the eyes just the silhouettes, and not solid? It's not like they were made of anything different, or different in any other way. They couldn't be have been fossilized in different ways. is this possibly genuine??? I totally trust this persons other stuff, this one just seems so impossible to me.

Ammonites from the Planet Mars, Chinese Sellers!

Hello. Good morning to all of my favorite forum! Last week, I was rummaging through our favorite auction site, it was then that I came across so many absurdities that I felt obliged to make an alert here for the most inexperienced collectors who end up paying rivers of money when they think they have found a rare specimen! ========================================== Specimen Nº 01 I'm going to start with this first specimen, which was originally supposed to be in poor condition, so what they did was make a series of scratches in a completely failed attempt to make the specimen more "attractive". And the seller is bold! He announces using the word "natural"! ========================================== Specimens Nº 02 These types of Ammonites here I call Ammonites HP Lovecraft because they are polished (destroying the original and scientific shell here is nothing left) and then the tentacles are completely carved in the purest Cthulhu style of the Master HP Lovecraft: Is it just me who see the resin made with stone dust here, used to glue the carved tentacles? So in this case, even the base "matrix" is not authentic, but yes, it is also made with resin and stone powder! Here the sellers are moderate, in the ad title, they use the word "Healing", but the funny thing is that before I saw all this, I was grumpy, but after seeing all this, I ended up laughing, so maybe really have some "Healing" power! ========================================== Specimen Nº 03 This is my favorite and it was already a topic of debate here at TFF! Looks like Nasa found her and brought her straight from Planet Mars! Does not appear? I believe they originally tried to sculpt tentacles in this specimen, but the glue could not hold the tentacles, or even, maybe the carved tentacles broke, I do not know, but the fact is that she became hideously beautiful bizarre! But still, it remains a specimen with the shell destroyed by polishing and sculpted! I wonder and have ideas if this specimen were black... ========================================== Specimen Nº 04 And to finalize this post with a golden key, I would finally like to introduce you to this specimen, which I call Ammonite Rainbow ... Perhaps the shell is completely natural, but the fact is that the tentacles, I'm sure they are not natural and were carved! ========================================== I do not know if these Ammonites are being adulterated in Madagascar which is exactly where they all come from, or if the adulteration is in China, which, by the way, imports thousands of tons of them annually from Madagascar. But here I register my appeal to those who are starting to collect fossils now, let them not be deceived with bizarre specimens at tempting prices without first seeking some scientific knowledge on the subject. Of course these Ammonites have great value, but merely artistic value, a beautiful decorative object, but never scientific!

Hi, just wondered from the photos if this eggs looks real or not? would love to own a real dinosaur egg but don’t want to waste my money buying a fake one . Noticed you can see on one of the photos two small pin hole sized holes next to each other? thanks

Hello ! This is my first fossil, bought Sunday on an international exhibition (Ste Marie aux Mines) I have studied a lot of the old threads on the forum about Kechousaurus, I paid attention to the painting, the shape of the spine etc. The seller was very appreciated and we talked a lot, so I trust him. What do you think? Especially its preparation? He told me that he prepared the fossil with the sandblaster, no acid and no paint. Is this a nice and authentic piece?

Alrighty folks, I know the trilobite "fake versus real" is almost a cliché around here, but I thought I would ask any how. I bought this several years ago online...and it was advertised as a "phacops trilobite from Morocco". (Oh, I can hear the groans). LOL. So after the fact, I did some research: It has the detailed eyes and nose, it has the supposed common fracture through the "trilobite" and the matrix, and as far I can tell, I don't see any casting "bubbles". Sooooo, a probability of real, fake...or inconclusive? If it's real...cool, if fake...oh well I learned my lesson. Henry

Hi guys, I found this egg and it looks good in my opinion. I know there isn't a lot of eggshell but the price is reasonable. There is one mayor red flag, it is from Malaysia. Probably smuggled from China Is it real? And how do you classify it, the seller states it is Therizinosaur. But as far I know, you don't classify eggs on specie level and there isn't found allot of material of the Therizinosaur aswel. -
Hey guys, got some specimens I need some help identifying. First two photos are of a shard that the seller claims to be a trex tooth shard. Is that what it looks like? And the third photo is of a bone found in Montana that the selller believes may be a Trex bone. Please advise.

Moroccan Trilobites- Fakes and Junk - Who buys this stuff?

Hi, I found this trilobites online and decided to attach a few photos here to show examples of trilobites anyone should avoid buying - unless priced really cheap, I wouldn't pay 10$ for any of these.. This is a mix of fakes and real trilobites - very quick prepared probably 20 years ago - quality to AVOID AT ALL COSTS to avoid buying fakes! Loss of some details in the process of preparation is understandable, but when prepared too quick like this it's just a rock and not worth 500$! If only people buying moroccan trilobites did some research (all it takes is to copy paste the name of the species into google and browse through some photos to see more detailed prepared examples)... Some of you bidding on this? Someone just won this 4.7" butchered Psychopyge for 518$ from a seller in Wisconsin in USA! So much for honest USA sellers.

Our favorite auction sight has a Spinosaurus aegypticus skull listed from a seller in France. The seller lists it as being "real" and "70% complete." I was under the impression that there have been no complete spino skulls found? If you go onto the sellers regular website he also has a full spino skeleton that he says is the most complete specimen ever found.

Would like some input it looks good to me however don't feel I know enough about this type of fossil to be 100 percent confident it does have the calcium cracks, bones are not in a typical easy to fake position however there is always the chance of paint so I do appreciate the views of others that have seen with the naked eye and know what unwritten red flags to look for.

Spinosaurus Tooth Help!!

I am definitely an amateur when it comes to collecting and need some advice: I recently purchased my first 'larger' Spinosaurus tooth from a small gem/fossil shop in Seattle. The owner told me that it had no repairs or restorations, and that it of course came from Morocco. I tested the tooth under a UV flashlight and there were no anomalies, but I just wanted some more experienced opinions. The enamel looks good- no apparent cracks or suspicious color variations, root still has some of the matrix on it, but the tip seems a little suspicious to me... maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I have read so much about fake fossils and just want to be sure! Let me know what you guys think- Thanks!
