  1. Hi, I picked up this fossil for a reasonable price and I'm wondering what you guys think of it? Not the nicest, but everything is correct (I think). I know there are a lot of fakes, so im wondering what you guys think. Thanks!!!!
  2. Hi there everyone! I've recently been acquiring different fossils to add to my collection and I came across a listing for a carcharodontosaurus tooth that really interested me. Below are a few photos of the listing advertising the carcharodontasaurus tooth. The sellers themselves are very reputable and I am in no way questioning their validity as I'm sure the tooth is a real fossil. Instead, I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me positively identify the fossil as a carcharodontosaurus tooth as I know many different teeth and fossils come from the Kem Kem Beds in Morocco. The tooth is in pretty rough condition and has been glued together as seen through the middle of the tooth laterally, though it looks to still have most of its enamel and serrations in tact. Despite these quirks, I'm still very interested in adding this tooth to my collection and I would love to know if the tooth is in fact from a carcharodontosaurus or if it is possibly from another animal of that time period. Thank you all!
  3. Hello, new member here. I just purchased this heteromorph ammonite from what's considered a reputable website but I've started to get concerned on the authenticity of this specimen due to the heterogeneous coloration (some places dark, some places light). Is there a chance there's some fake pieces as a composite or perhaps heavy restoration? Also it was listed as eubostrychoceras indopacificum, but it looks different from photos of other such specimens. It seems more like a Nostoceras malagasyense, but perhaps I'm just mistaken?
  4. Hello, I have found these trilobites online and would like to know if they are real. 1.- Paralejurus rehammanus, Emsian Devonian, from Khebchia fm. 2.- Cheirurus (Crotalocephalina) gibbus, Middle Devonian, El Atchana, Alnif. I had to cover the name of the seller from one of the images. Thanks!
  5. I know mosasaur jaws are faked but what about the teeth. This one from Morocco have distinctive edges that are causing a red flag in my head
  6. I inherited a fossil and rock collection…. Not labeled or anything! Totally stressful. I have two trilobite fossils. How do I know if it’s real or fake?
  7. I was looking to buy this Keichousaurus fossil, but would like to hear some opinions on if it’s real or fake. Please help.
  8. Hi guys I'm new here! Hope to find everybody well! I just want to ask for your feedback around a specimen of Keichousaurus I'm nearly to buy. What do you think? Does it seems real and legit to you? Many thanks for your kind feedback. Cap
  9. Hi All, I am wondering if anyone can assess the authenticity of this Acadoparadoxides from Morocco? From what I can tell there is restoration on the right eye and maybe margin of the cephalon. Beyond that I think it is real. It does appear to be missing one thoracic segment but I am guessing this is taphonomic. I can take more pics as needed. Thanks for the help.
  10. Hello everyone! Me and daughter bought an ammonite fossil in Italy (mount vesuvius) this summer. We are totally naïfe and far below the level of knowledge of an amateur. Can anyone tell us if it’s a real one or a fake one? Thank you all for your precious help. best regards
  11. Hi all, I saw this cool looking piece in a rock store in a small US country town. There were many other fossils in the store but this one stood out to me with the contrast in the colors and reminded me of an alien creature. The store owner claimed it was real but I’m not entirely convinced. I loved the look of it so bought it anyway but thought I’d get your opinions on whether this was a real fossil in any way or just a pretty bit of art? It appears to be a part of the slab of rock and if it is carved they’ve done a very good job at getting all the details into this solid rock. Thanks!
  12. I am told this is an fossiles egg from dendroolitihus sp. It should be real, but who knows?
  13. Hi there! I'm new to the forum. I recently picked up a mosasaur jaw, my first fossil. Question is it real or fake, I started doing the research after making the purchase.. Comparing it to other examples, it's somewhere in the middle. It doesn't look totally manufactured, but it also kind of looks to good to be true. Opinions?
  14. I bought this fossil not long ago. It’s supposedly a genuine caudal vertebrae from a dryosaurus. It was found at bone cabin quarry. I believe it is real, but I wanted a little assurance.
  15. Hi, Purchased this Baltic Amber from Lithuania. Tried the black light test and the very clear amber turns opaque cream like color. Please see pics. Is this possibly fake? Thanks!
  16. I am bidding on a few items right now and two I am not 100 percent sure on. The first bug, I am hoping not to win, and then I won't have to retract the bid. The second one, I already was outbid, but it is still cheap.
  17. Hi I realise a lot of these jaws are faked now from looking online, I wonder if you had any thoughts on this jaw, I’m leaning towards your usual Moroccan forgery but would love to get your input, thanks!!
  18. Found this online, something about it seems off. If anyone could help me find out if it's fake I'd appreciate it.
  19. Has anyone ever seen a Keichousaurus that died giving birth (or died and went into labor)?
  20. Hello All. I am curious as to the groups assessment as to the authenticity of this Acadoparadoxides specimen from Morocco. It measures roughly 13 inches in length (the fossil itself). I see restoration of the right eye (as in right side of the photo) and right portions of the glabella, but beyond that am fairly hopeful/comfortable that the specimen is authentic. It is interesting that an upper thoracic segment is missing, but I am thinking this could be taphonomic or that segment was lost when the rock split. Anyway, I value any thoughts and input. I'm happy to share more photos as well. Thank you.
  21. This is supposed to be a Xantho (Lophoxanthus) Scaberrimus from West Java,Indonesia. It looks blatantly fake to me (no articulations on the chelae!?) - or, do such "carving like" fossils actually exist? Several are being on offer now on that auction site, which is doubly suspicious. Thanks in advance
  22. Is this a real T-rex tooth? this tooth belong to someone i know. He claimed that he got a big rex tooth from USA (no more specific locality). Here are Three pictures I have. What do you guy think??
  23. Hi all! I'm curious if this fossil I'm thinking of getting is real or fake!
  24. Came across this piece. Its advertised as being a juvie spinosaurus jaw with some of its teeth/roots still intact. Looks shady as heck to me and even if its 'real' it looks more like those elosuchus jaw parts you might find online. What do you guys say?
  25. Hi guys I recently bought this as a replica but having seen nothing like it I’ve been wondering about it’s authenticity to me the fish seems like a decent real fossil , however the turtle seems sculpted and the flippers are all off, the rock seems Like real fossiliferous lagersatte rock With fossil remains apparent on the back what do you thinks?
