  1. I've had this ax for several years. It comes from Denmark, or at least that area. Made of ground stone, it contains a fossil that is approximately 5mm long. I have wondered since I got this what that fossil could be. Any help is appreciated. The ax: The fossil:

    Astragalus bone of unknown critter

Hi all, Apologies if I ruffle feathers with my ignorance of how things work around here but I did check out the posting guidelines. An initial and sound ID of the type of bone was made by the "Fossil Guy", Paul Murdoch, but it would be nice to narrow it down a little more than that. I've attached an archive of photos of all angles of the bone. The specimen weighs 99 g, and has overall dimensions of 77 mm * 52 mm * 39 mm, and I can do a displacement test to get its true density and volume if that helps with the ID. The fossil (so far unverified IN PERSON but passes match and taste test; taking to the ROM in Toronto for ID next week) was found off the north coast of Prince Edward Island while snorkeling in August of this year. It looked like a chunk of electrical insulator half-buried in the sand, but when I dove down to retrieve it, I noticed that it didn't feel like any material I've ever handled before, so I took it back and let it dry. This was found in 50' proximity of 30' tall red sandstone cliffs, being eroded by the warming waters of the gulf of the St. Lawrence. Based on the red staining of the specimen, I suspect it's a part of a skeleton either distributed along the bottom of the ocean in the area or still in the side of the cliff. Any help in narrowing down the age and former owner of this bone would be much appreciated! I apologize for the zip file but it only contains images. Thanks! James fossilphotoswithscale.zip

    First dipleura!?

Stop by deep Springs road quarry On my way back from work today. I was only able to be there for a short period of time because it started raining. Normally I really wouldn't care if I was getting rained on but of course with It being in the middle of nowhere and slick shale everywhere. NOPE. Thankfully I found a hotspot very quickly. Over all a good dig! I think I found a dipleura trilobite. Not sure. I saw a post from @Darktooth talk about them. It's in a strange position. All the trilobites I have found at DSR before are very small but other have found ones this big and bigger their.

    Fossil Fish: Neoproscinetes?

Good day, I'd like some help to identify this fossil fish. It is nearly 11 inches long. From what I've searched it looks similar to Neoproscinetes, but I'm no master of fossil fishes. I'd like to know its species name and if it is indeed a real fossil fish.
  6. Good day everyone, I'm looking into these two partial mammal skulls: An oreodont Merycoidodon and a Camel Poebrotherium. I'd like some help to find out if these are all real or have been partially fabricated, enhanced, composited, total fakes. Photos 1-4: Merycoidodon culbertsoni Oligocene Nebraska Photos 5-8: Camel Poebrotherium labiatum Brule Formation Oligocene-Whiteriverian Converse County, Wyoming
  7. Fish scale, vertebrae, squilla scale, some kind of plants Location: Pohang, south Korea Formation: Duho formation Age: middle miocene
  8. Hello, I just recently made an account. I'm in the process of collecting more rare fossils, but while I was cleaning out some space, I came across some old fossils from when I was a small child. These are fossils were purchased in Japan at a Shinto Shrine during New Years about 10+ years ago when I was small, it's a bit fuzzy in my memory so I assume quite a while ago. Unfortunately, the locale and ID of the fossils were all lost (because a kid just throws away the paper immediately . . . right?) except the Spinosaurus. I mostly wanted to know about the two Ammonite fossils, the sharks I just assume are nothing special and Spinosaurus is . . . well just your every day common Spinosaurus. The white one has some kind of green junk on it, which I assume is some kind of plastic that melted onto it. I don't expect anything spectacular from them, but I just wanted at least some ID on them. The ruler is in centimeters.

  14. I found a few of these fossils the other day and cant figure out what it is. Let me know your thoughts. The triangle is flat and you can see corners poking out when looked at from different angles.
  15. Just found my first fossil this past weekend in Grand Isle, Vermont. I think it is a trilobite but I am not sure. I was hoping someone can comment on what they think it is and maybe a few tips for cleaning it would be much appreciated! The fossil is about 1.5" long and was sun baking for who knows how long. Any idea how old these things are? Thanks for the feedback!

    What kind of shark tooth?

Can anyone ID this tooth for me? It was a freebie, so I didn’t look into it at all, and the label seemed to be incorrect, as those teeth all have cusps. I can’t find the label at the moment, but I know it was a carcharodon. I THINK it was labeled Orientalis.
  17. I found this fossil along with others, looking for id! Id love to learn more about it

are these fossils or "just rocks"

hi, me and my 10yr old son have recently got into rocks, fossils and beachcombing - him moreso but he cant go on own, so i go with him (it gets me out of the house). The following photos are bits he found at our local rocky beach (parton bay, west cumbria uk). We have no idea if they are fossils or "just rocks" (this is what his older brothers have said they all are!) i am pretty sure that the "white/grey/black" piece is fossilised wood/charcoal (L) and the "clam shell" (P) is not shell material anymore but solid rock.

  21. Hello again everyone. So I decided to take another look at the stuff my uncle gave me like 30 years ago and took some pictures to see if this all fake too. I didn't notice there was a pouch in the box, but written on it was "Teeth Southern Illinois". This is maybe half of them, and some other thing that was in a bag, inside the other bag. Any thoughts? Thanks! Dan
